Yeah, but now it's official. Russo, fine, I understand the reason. This one, I don't get. Why are defensive players flying the coop? Apparently they don't want to play for the DC who won a championship at Ohio State? How much more would it take??!?

Ash needs to do a better job of shoring up our top recruits rather than wasting time recruiting a bunch of Plan B players.

Call it what it is... a big loss... wishing the kid gets beat out at Wisconsin or UNC and never sees time on the football field.

I thought it was just the way the questions were asked.
He didn't need to volunteer that particular info even if the question was worded a certain way. Obviously, he wanted it put out there who his top 2 were which did not include RU and surprise surprise he decommitted today.

As I said when he was hired, Ash had no recruiting bona fides and no local contacts which could make up for recruiting ability deficits and since then he's done nothing in his staff hires to shore this up. Decommits happen, of course, but to lose arguably our two best recruits without getting a single sought after player to date is a bit discouraging. I'll wait until signing day to see where it shakes out, but so far, very sadly (after watching all the Men's bb games - why do I do even do that - we all know what "sadly" means) things are going in the direction that I feared on his hire.

If you watch ESPN, you get spoon fed UNC much of the year (except for the whole academic fraud thing).....I assume living in nearby Va. that is even worse. In that context, I could understand if he chooses UNC.....but if he goes Wisconsin, that would be rather stunning.

Then again, recruiting is a lot about personal relationships with staff members.

Umm what does a recruit from Virginia decommitting have to do with local contacts?
Who is the second best recruit? Russo? Our RB coach is from Philly area. Russo was from Pennsylvania.

Did the right thing. Wish the kid the best.
Why he didn't.....he's a ''outsider' anyway...he left his homeland to come down south for HS...now his word to us when he claimed it meant something turned out to be just that ''hollow''....he's a merc...bye bye..can't even wish that guy luck...

It appears Rutgers was nothing more than a place holder for several recruits. It also appears Rene would have gone somewhere else no matter the HC. This is Rutgers issue and why I believe Ash told people there's no quick fix. Perception is a ***** and the perception of RU is not good.

if he is no longer visiting at the end of the month then this is a significant hit to the class. I previously stated that my expectation was that the overall quality of the class that Ash brings in would be better than what RU had committed the day flood left. No need to evaluate it now but he has work to do to meet my expectation.

He is a Loss as he is a potential stud in an area of need with a prior relationship to Ash. Russo, not so much. That being said, there is a whole lot of assumptions and conclusion in your o's it for a guy who has been in the job for a few weeks, hasn't hosted an OV yet, and is still a few weeks away from his first class.

Whenever the coaching staff gets fired recruits generally follow in leaving. It has happened in Maryland, that Canadian school, and even Michigan last year, and look what coach they brought in.

This. We saw the mass exodus of Recruits under Flood in 2014, this is the same story different year.
No pride in their home state . Adios.

The only actual game-changer who could legit come right in and help. I know things will get better under Ash long-term, but this is almost as bad as it gets for a P5 school. Absolutely horrific.:flush:

Recruiting musical chairs at all the schools that had HC and staff changes, whether or not these guys are good to great recruiters won't be know for at least a year. I will hold my opinion until later. This year is what it is, hopefully we will win a couple that will be new or will be old names back in play, we all knew there was going to be fallout. Frankly there was a very good chance some of the commit fallout would have happen with Flood as well.
