Yes, but you have look at a coach's overall success, especially how he/she performs on the biggest stages (tournament and important regular season games). I don't know how Barnes usually does in big-time regular season games, but I think the OP's point was that more often than not Barnes has not delivered on the big stage, as evidenced by lack of tournament success.

The game on Saturday was a tournament-like atmosphere, and voila, he did not deliver.

Wasn’t. Tournament like. It was a home game for UK!!! Give me a break. Again he won 13 Big 12 championships. Those weren’t big games though. He has won the SEC in year 3 at Tennessee. Those weren’t big games. He is going to win the SEC in year 4 as well. Back to back.

Three Elite Eights and one Final Four in all his years coaching. Big 12 is not exactly a world beating conference, especially when he was in it. Hasn't been past round of 32 since 2008. Not saying he's bad. I think he's a great coach. Just not elite, especially when it counts. See: UT in tournament last year. That's why he's at UT.
As for the game last Saturday, it was a big time game. Bilas remarked it felt like a Final Four game.

What do you define as passing you? Obviously Tennessee isn't going to pass Kentucky in national championships for decades if ever. But in terms of current and future state, we were better last year, we've passed you in the rankings this year, our recruiting class + returning roster combined is better than yours next year.....

I think you're correct in that BCG did beat him during the UT-A&M games. He appears to be a coach that does better with less talent and expectations.

Let's name why he isn't that good of a coach. Everyone loves this Tennessee team that's ran through an easy schedule thus far...but history says Barnes is a FRAUD!

1. He hasn't made it passed the first weekend in 10 consecutive seasons.

2. He's only made 1 Final-4 and that was in 2003.

3. He had Kevin Durant and lost in the 2nd round of the tournament, had 10 losses with Durant

A list of notable NBA players he's had:

-PJ Tucker
-Daniel Gibson

-DJ Augustine
-Avery Bradley

We're going to need some new villains. All the really good villains we love to hate are gone or going. Rick P is gone, as is Jurich, and Neckbrace Bobby. Ratface is going to retire soon as will Roy Williams. Of course nobody will ever top Bobby Knight and Ray Mears.

Kevin Mack doesn't fit the part. Too much a straight shooter. He might walk anyway if the NCAA drops the hammer. Bill Self, yeah maybe. Clappy the clown Crean is always a possibility. Barnes may fit the bill.
