Thanks for sharing, Rick. Especially loved all those Willie Morris memories/stories.

And a slight sidebar... does it still a little bit blow the mind of anyone else who was around for the earliest eras of SixPackSpeak, that Rick 17ing Cleveland posts on the Pack?!?

A different username in the past because 2012 wasn’t exactly the early days of the pack?

Coincidence that the guy complimenting the guy and the guy both joined in Sep 2012?

And I don’t know about BR but yes, I am kidding Rick, I have enjoyed the works of yours that I have read.

Great story. My wife is a UT grad and in school with Majors as coach. She said he loved to visit the bars and sure enough liked to have a few too many. Made the connection that he basically started his coaching career at State and the Willie Morris connection is pretty cool. Drink a bourbon for Coach Majors!

Other interesting tidbits..

Jackie Sherrill’s first assistant job was on Major’s first staff at Iowa State. Also on that staff was Jimmy Johnson.

Jackie was on Finbaum yesterday and was choked up badly when he spoke about Majors. It was hard for KJS to get thru the interview.

I use to bartend parties at Mr. Bob Hartley's house (longtime SID for State) after ball games and when Coach Majors was in town... it was Black Jack Daniels. Mr. Harltley, Coach Jack Nix. who was like a Grandfather to me..who also lived next to Mr. Hartley in Pecan Acres... man those were the days. This was in the 1980's and ALL THE OLDER CROWD... they were all together at State either playing or coaching.... Jack Nix was State's 1st Four Sport Letterman winner... He was a STUD... and a scratch golfer at that... Art Davis...1st round pic... His brother Harper.. who was also a great player that played in the NFL... Coached at Millsaps 40 years... seems almost EVERYONE has forgotten the past History of State athletics these days. When Georgia played here, Vince and his brother Bill, who played and graduated from State were lots of fun too... A lot coaches that have been here before went on to some be some of the biggest names in College football... And they ALWAYS loved coming back to State!!!
