1998-2000 we were almost unbeatable in Starkville

J J rushed 36 times for 237 yards in 1998 vs Bama in Starkville. JWS just ran the damned ball down Bama's throat.

Check out the final records of the SEC teams during that stretch. There were some ghastly SEC records in that period. Not to mention the Non-Cons.

I'd had a bad car wreck right before Christmas in 98 and had a ten hour back surgery on new years eve. I hazingly remember watching the Cotton Bowl through a cloud of morphine from the hostpital but man did Ricky Williams not forever go off in that game. Thats about all of it that I remember.

But man I thought we had UT in Atlanta, damn Tee Martin and Peerless Price

The year of the cardiac kids was one fun year. I loved the characters we had on that team, talk about swagger

My...how times have changed. I remember arguing with Sec fans that we deserved the SECCG. Some Folks wanted Florida to rematch UT instead of us. I argued we beat Bama and Auburn to which the response was they suck.

It makes sense why Jackie thought you could only get your team up a few times a year. There are some shitastic losses in there.

At least Mullen has only lost VERY FEW games we should have won. Jackie had 2-3 a year.

I think Ricky personally injured like 4 of our defensive players in that game. He did not shy away from contact.

I rushed the field after that win and cut out a section of grass along the 50-yd line. Still have it in a cigar box along with the ticket from that day.

only to lose to a ****** arkansas team the next week. Those let down games with JWS were beyond frustrating.

I think the 2000 loss to Arkansas was even more frustrating and the beginning of Sherrill's downfall in my opinion. We had the SECW wrapped up if we could have beaten them and Ole Miss.

Marroon grass, shrub from sideline, ticket stub all framed with the front page of the Reflector.

How long do organic things (e.g., grass and shrubbery) last? Figured they'd just vanish with time, especially the grass. Maybe it's the paint.

I’ve got a piece of the goal posts from Ark 98 and Bama 96 stacked on a trophy mount right next to my Wayne madkin signed football. I’d post a pic but don’t know how. Quick guide and i will

Our fanbase hasn't rushed the field in a while. when was the last time? Florida 2004 maybe?

Im a student right now and It would be an awesome feeling to rush the field. If a miracle happened against bama this weekend, I feel like it would happen. but its pretty much a pipe dream

I think you rush the field when you’ve won the division, not just for beating a team for the first time in a while.

I know it's a hell of a thing to say about one of our most successful seasons ever, but those losses in 98 are just weird.

The most amazing case of a snow bowl I have ever seen. Who would have expected MSU to be Playing A&M in the middle of Louisiana in the snow. And the best part, we won. The blocked kick in OT was pure gold.

And we need to stop doing that. None of those games accomplished anything significant enough to rush the field.

Yeah I’m sure our 2017 receivers would be giving Fred Smoot & Robert Bean SO much trouble.***

The 1999 defensive line included Ellis Wyms, Dorsett Davis, Alvin McKinley, John Hilliard and Cornell Menafee, all of whom were drafted and/or played in the NFL.

Linebackers included Barrin Simpson, who played for years in the CFL.

And let's not forget the unblockable tackling machine that was Ashley Cooper.

Finally, the 1999 defense also included Tim Nelson, Pig Prather and Connor Stephens, all of whom were excellent football players.

Still can't believe we didn't go to a bowl in '97

Still can't believe we lost to 17'n Kentucky and still went to the SECCG in '98.
Still can't believe we were that close to an undefeated season in '99. Damn you bama and hogs.
Still can't believe the 17'n wheels came off that quickly.

Agreed. I was there for the egg bowl and Florida. Seemed like we did it all the time. Looking back it only made us look bad, but it sure was fun.
