I couldn't make the game yesterday so I watched from home. When Reiber was at the top of the key looking to shoot I yelled at the TV "don't do it !!!". Of course, swish it goes in and my wife who wasn't really even watching the game turns to me and says "and that is why you are not a basketball coach".

How many of you felt the same and thought, dont' shoot!

Not me. I have watched him shoot, and in limited looks, I thought I would like to see him shoot from distance in a game. You can see that Reiber has a quiet confidence in his game.

The fan seated next to me said after the first one went in, “He won’t be shooting a 3 again.” I said I hope Reiber shoots another 3 TODAY. When he made the second three, I gave the fan a friendly elbow as we both enjoyed the make. Good stuff!!

Just showing the shot on film will help his game immensely, because it will change the way he's guarded. Making them, well that's a huge bonus.

I wasnt sure about how much DR could contribute entering the season...perhaps I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions 😉

The kid is coming along, has nice hops finishes around the basket and can step out for a 3. This is a pike type recruit. Gains 20 lbs next season and we have something.

If he continues to play at this level, it’s conceivable that in certain situations that he and Cliff are on the floor at the same time.

If Agee can step up a bit, I could definitely see us playing "big" and putting Reiber at the PF spot and shifting Harper to SF. We saw Reiber as PF against CCSU with Nathan at the C spot, so it's clear that they have him there at some points during practice.

Sadly, Agee is a 5th year senior so I think he is exactly what we’ve seen - I.e., not very good at this level. I don’t see that changing.

If your that open shoot!

It brings out the other teams post defender from the paint!

He hasn't really shown as much yet, but I'm not ready to write him off. McConnell had a brutal stretch of games to start the year, but that doesn't mean he was exactly what we saw. It took Hyatt some time to figure things out with this group, and he's had more time on the court than Agee has had so far.

I think the outside shot has always been a central part of Reiber's game. If he's ever to be a solid player for us he needs to shoot and make shots from the outside.

Agree with possibly seeing Dean and Cliff on the floor together. Key will be foul trouble for either one of them.

Reiber was listed as having a decent outside shot when he committed to RU. He does often hit them in practice. I am glad that he hit the 2 threes as it should help his confidence a lot. I hope he can get a little stronger and possibly play some power forward in the future. He is very athletic and could play a more prominent role going forward. When at center he can make the opponent's center come out to guard him. He could become a real weapon off the bench.

Reiber and Cliff both hitting outside jumpers (2 apiece in the Nebraska game alone) should help space the floor even more, as the opposing C will have to go out to guard them on the perimeter... leaving open the paint for alley-oops and other cutters.

I am looking forward to the game when Reiber and Cliff are on the floor together and the dilemma that gives the competitor.

It’s a big transition from being a good shooter in practice to having the feel and confidence to hit them in a game situation. He always looked to me like he can shoot. I was not concerned at all at the time. Top of the key tends to be a pretty easy spot to hit from so it’s actually a great place to knock down that first one.

And he is not going to gain confidence sitting
on the bench.

There’s no reason to do this. Our weak spot for depth has been center. If Reiber is getting better, we remove that weakness. We don’t sacrifice the minutes of other players to get two centers on the floor; it’s not 1995. This would be a huge defensive liability since neither is really mobile enough to chase perimeter players. You’d probably be stealing minutes from Mag, Mulchahy, McConnell, Hyatt or Miller to do so.

Really would need to be situational depending on opponent, but I agree it's probably a rare thing. It does seem to be something they've at least done in practice, though, with Reiber at the 4 spot, since he shifted to the 4 in garbage time to get Nathan on the floor.
