Maybe its just me, but the Top 16 looks like it’s going to be very cut and dry. Not a whole lot of controversy or wiggle room for more than a few outcomes on the back end.

First, it’s pretty wild how many groups of in-state rivals are in the Top 18 teams in RPI. UCLA-USC, Texas-Tex A&M, Bama-Auburn, Florida-FSU, MSU-OM-USM, Oregon-Oregon State, Georgia-Georgia Tech. That’s 15 of the 18. West Virginia, North Carolina, and Nebraska are the only outliers. I fully expect the committee to take full advantage of this to create compelling Super Regional pairings when they can. Also expect those not hosting to be 2-seeds in a rival’s regional.

Generally, I think the current Top 14 in the RPI are hosting. The last 2 spots will be as follows:

-Either Oregon or Oregon State
-Either WVU or Kansas (who play tonight)

Most seeds should generally fall in line with RPI, except for a few. I think Georgia gets a Top 3-4 seed, and I think USC probably drops back a bit. I think A&M is ahead of MSU, like 11-12 or so.

Here’s what I’d predict as of now:

1) UCLA (no-brainer)
2) Georgia Tech (no-brainer)
3) Georgia
4) Texas
5) North Carolina
6) Auburn
7) Alabama
8) Florida State
9) Florida
10) Nebraska
11) USC
12) USM
13) Texas A&M
14) MSU
15) West Virginia
16) Oregon

Marquee potential Super Regional pairings include Texas-Texas A&M and Florida-FSU. Kansas is the #2 seed in Morgantown, Oregon State is the #2 seed in Eugene. Ole Miss is the #2 seed in Hattiesburg. Another SEC vs. SEC potential Super Regional with UGA vs. MSU. 7 hosts from SEC, 4 from B1G, 2 from ACC, 1 from Big 12, 1 from Sun Belt.

Pretty good analysis. Don’t think Kansas can go to Morgantown though (excusable because what the heck are Kansas & West Virginia doing in the same conference). If I’m a 2 seed (we won’t be) I want any big 10 regional except UCLA, Hattiesburg or Morgantown.

I think it would be in our best interest for Arkansas and Oregon to lose as quickly as possible. I don’t think we are totally out of the woods on locking down a Top 16.

And I do think WVU and Kansas could both host. That’s very much in play.

USC is not hosting. Time to stop making that happen.

It might be advantageous if we played at an ACC Super. BOC is very familiar with them. Even if we fall to the 16 seed , we've played UCLA already.

Arkansas is definitely on the cusp of playing themselves into the 7th SEC Host. That would leave it between State and Florida for the 8th SEC Host. Florida thinks they have done enough to earn the Host.

State could be anywhere from 14 to 17 on Monday.

Arkansas isn't going host regardless and there's no shot we fall out of a host site we're #12 RPI now.

You are correct….had a brainfart there. I think they go to Lincoln.

Florida and State are hosting. Florida is damn near a Top 8 seed, FFS. They are nowhere near the bubble.

I don’t see how they are lower than 14th.

How is USC not hosting with 43 wins and a Top 10 RPI?

They are 1-11 against Q1. DSR and KPI outside the Top 20. Their resume screams “empty calories”.

Neither of the two major national sites have had them hosting and I don’t think they were the first or second team out either. I tend to agree. They’ve literally beaten no one with a pulse. Finished fourth in the Big 10 and went 1-9 against the Top 3 teams.

Well, if they aren’t hosting then there’s no reason at all to worry if you’re an MSU fan. We’d essentially be ranked 11th in RPI of all “host-worthy” teams. In that case I think they’d put Kansas as a host along with West Virginia. Oregon State would still be out. USC would likely be the #2 in Kansas’ regional, or maybe MSU or A&M, since they couldn’t go to Oregon or UCLA.

It's going to be fun to come back and read the comments of all our resident board experts in this and other hosting threads once the field is actually set. Will be a great example of why it's wasted time to debate it when you can do absolutely nothing to make it happen or not.

Wasting time debating things that we have no control over is why SPS exists. :ROFLMAO:

Good points BUT it's wasted time for me to buy a power ball ticket when the payout gets enormous and talk about what I'd do with the money. It's fun and worth the couple bucks in entertainment value.

No official confirmation but my sources say that without a doubt we’re playing baseball Friday or Saturday. Take it for what it’s worth.

MDOT and the poor school kids of MS suffer because of me but I've never bought a lottery ticket or scratch off
