Region tournaments

Region A is the worst because they split the region so each side is pretty much district teams especially the west. 5 of the 7 teams were from the JRD.
Come tournament time, one should play teams they haven't seen before. I seem to recall 2 schools several years ago, playing 8 times, or something like that
In 2015-2016 season, Ridgeview and Union girls played 6 times:
(UVa-Wise Christmas tournament, regular season, regular season, district tournament championship, region tournament championship, state championship) Ridgeview won all 6 and is still undefeated all time against Union.
In 2014-2015 season, Wise Central and Gate City girls played 5 times:
(regular season, regular season, district tournament championship, region tournament championship, state championship) Gate City won the first 4, but Wise Central won the ultimate one that mattered in the state finals.
I know in 2015-16 Bluestone had to play 5 times. This was before they did away with the JRD tournament and conference tournament though. This format I don't believe is any better. It saves some on travel time, but again it's tournament time if you aren't the top couple of seeds you should have to travel. I think it's bad for the teams and fans that have to see the same teams play over and over again, it takes away from the feel of being in tournament play.
In 1A, Essex and Northumberland played 4 times this year.....2 regular season games that they split 1-1, District Tournament game that Northumberland won in overtime last week and the Regional game last night #11 Essex 51 #3 Northumberland 53. Northumberland hit a 3pointer at the buzzer to win. Same thing with Essex/Rappahannock girl....2 regular season games, district tourney last week that Rappahannock beat Essex by 3 I think and last Regionals, #7 Essex 59 #2 Rappahannock 50.
Randolph-Henry only played district teams in Region A tournament this year. Amelia for the 3rd time, Bluestone for the 4th time and Goochland for the 4th time. Might as well be an old fashion district tournament for them.
