Regarding Lancaster................

I see where there's some debate about this team being overlooked all season. I would say not, but possible reasons why are: they didn't play last year so no one had a clue who was on the team; the team was going to be composed of mostly JVers from two years ago (and I can say that team was GOOD); New coach who apparently had no previous varsity coaching experience.
Now, the one source I do respect is KW fan and he had Lancaster #3 in his initial poll; plus it's hard to overlook at defending state championship team with a 6-11 player. And just think, the younger of the Henderson brothers was playing middle school ball two years ago! I hope they get to play next week at home and thereafter until its Richmond time.

I just went and looked and 7 of the 8 teams who made it to the state tournament, I had in my first top 10 of the season. Washington and Lee was the only one I didn't have

W&L was pretty much in the same boat as Lancaster. Didn't play last year and when they last did they went 9-11

Very good size. Next to KW, probably the biggest one in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. I'm not very good at estimating how many it holds, but maybe 1200-1500. NNDman or one of the Lancaster guys could probably give you a better estimate

I'd conservatively say 1,200 but likely more. The awesome thing about that gym is Lancaster County's forefathers were bright enough to build a gym that size and have it off the cafeteria which serves as a large commons area. It opened in 1974 and its still very adequate today although the locker rooms could probably use some major renovations.
W&L's fieldhouse was home to it last game this past Monday night. It opened in 1967.
Essex has been in the same gym since 1971. I believe Rapp's new gym opened in 2017? Northumberland's current gym is about two decades old. No clue about Steve Swope Court at the Drifter Dome on the campus of Colonial Beach High School.
