Did Lyons actually offer DH an extension and DH didn't like it or was there no offer at all and DH wanted one?

Dana wanted multiple year extension, I think to protect himself against a down 2019 year, and Shane was only offering up a one year.

As I stated last week, when the Houston rumors got hot, Dana was using Houston to try to get a deal (for protection more than money; higher buyout) from WVU. It backfired, well sort of. He got his contract at Houston and will probably be there only until his name gets "hot" again and will be back at a Power 5 conference school.

As for WVU, we need to be prepared for some dark days ahead. The next 2-3 years could be some of the worst in the history of the program. Recruits will start leaving, players will start transferring, and we will be in some difficult times. Hope I'm wrong.

I think this depends on who we get to replace him. I think Fickel or Brown could quickly re-energize the place.

Do we know if Lyons offered more $?
A lityle more money but not much relief on the buyout.

Some national writer said that Dana was wanting a number that would equate to a conference champ. We wouldnt pay that.

I don't think his name is ever going to be "hot" again. He got $10-15 M from WVU and even if he flops in two years at Houston he'll get about $10-15 M (including buyout) and then probably get another Houston-ish job or maybe an OC job at a P5 school. Or maybe he'll even succeed at Houston, which has unrealistically high expectations, and get more. But I doubt he does so well at Houston that a P5 school takes him away.

We were staring at a 4-8 season if he stayed. We have no quarterback. Dana knew next year was going to be a **** show and he got out. Dana could never recruit a qb. Wins next season were going to be James Madison, Texas Tech, Kansas and Kansas State.

I’ll take a couple down years if we end up with someone good.

lots of folks thought the same about Nehlens and RR's hiring....I think the correct hire here will lessen the negative impact. The program needs some new life...and definitely a different defense

I don't know what constitutes a down year. In my view of seeing messages from WVU fans and talking to others, expectations are ridiculous and I don't share opinion with most people I come in contact with because of it. I'm more real in expectations. I want a competitive team and maybe challenge for a national run to the playoffs maybe once every 10 years. I want a clean program and one that I can be proud of at all times.

WVU will always struggle in recruiting against Texas and Oklahoma teams. But that doesn't mean we can't compete for a Big 12 championship in most years. But I will admit the cupboard appears to be quite bare at the moment and the next couple of years will be a challenge. I will support the team and new coach regardless.

I hate to judge QB play on the first game some kid started in the last 3 years. Word on the street was that he nerves got the better of him in that game, and I think that's understandable. I'm not saying he's a Heisman contender with some more experience, but I get the sense that he could be solid. If you look at what he did in that game, he obviously needs to learn how to work better in the pocket. He was being blitzed up the middle on several occasions. The guy many consider to be the GOAT NFL QB, Tom Brady, always performs poorly in those situations too. He held onto the ball too long on some of the sacks, but he protected the ball. The only interception he threw was high, but off the receivers hands. He didn't fumble on any of the sacks or hits he took. He'll come around.

As far as Lowe goes, his involvement was about what I thought it would be. He spent the whole year running the scout team, so he wasn't going to have the offense mastered in a handful of practices as the #2 QB. They threw him in there for a couple of gadget plays, but they weren't trying to overwhelm him. I don't think we know much about what he can deliver as a starter from that game, but I'm not ready to say that he can't be good. He just wasn't ready to show it based purely on the limited bowl game prep.

As far as the results next season, I'm not expecting to contend for a conference title. I'll be happy with a bowl.

Any new coach in any program IMO is going to need at least 5 years to build a program to where they want it. I guess that's why I started to get frustrated with Dana as a coach. This far into his career at WVU and I would have expected just a little more.

So you guys in the area with sources, what is the latest scoop? I've heard Fickel has the lead but I can't say how reliable that source is.

As it pertains to non-political subjects, I have a great level of respect from many individuals on this board with their perspective. I can't say that for the other boards.

I gave up my Blue Lot sub years back, can't say I really miss it all that much. It was always funny to see the "information" that would flow through the board.
