Refs key call

When we was up about 9 points they called a foul on Quickley on a three point shot. The shooter clearly kicked his legs out to make contact with Quickley. That is one of the point of emphasis for the refs this year. They give Masetti 3 free points to get them back in it.

Not too long after that they mugged Richards on a loose ball he was going for that would have put him on the line but they swallowed their whistle. Probably cost us two points.

The third call against us was the loose ball that was being tipped around and they called over and back. There was no possesetion and should have been our ball. So they got the ball when it should have been ours.

The fourth call when they fouled Sestina out the replay showed was not a foul on Nate. So they give them two more free points.

During this span I do not remember us getting ANY calls. To overcome TT and the refs was a valiant effort. So proud of the team and especially Richards for his mental toughness and pursing all of those rebounds (14) and loose balls he went so hard for.

We did force the issue a few times instead of being patient but all in all I loved our fight and a lot of mental toughness shown making free throws and getting some key steals.

I’ll take these refs over our normal SEC refs every game. Thought they were really food the first 43 minutes. The last two minutes, not so much.

Good summary. Then the geriatric ref carried it right down to the final buzzer, trying to give the ball to TT for the last possession. Thank god he was over-ruled.

The funny thing is I thought the refs did a pretty good job until the latter part of the second half and OT. But they started enjoying getting that crowd reaction when they would make a call for TT. I was shocked that they called the foul to put Nick at the line in OT with 10 seconds left and almost as surprised that they didn’t call a foul on Hagans in the last possession.

Yep. My thoughts for the most part.

The one I thought was pretty critical was the over and back call. I thought that was a possession call and could be looked at from the monitor cause there was no clear possession from either team. Maybe I'm wrong about them being able to look at that, but it seemed critical close to the end of overtime.

The over and back was the correct call. Maxey had possesion which meant we had team control. Sestina can't catch a break. We need to start trying to block every shot...standing still and letting players run into us always goes against us.

I agree. Anybody got the ability to isolate these calls in short videos so I can send them with my email?

That foul on the 3 was called from 40 ft away. Meanwhile there was a ref 5 feet from it. Ridiculous.
On that note, make a rule where a ref can only call a foul in their area of responsibility. It essentially makes them only call the obvious. If the guy 5 feet from it doesn’t see it, the guy 40 feet looking through the traffic in the lane sure as hell didn’t.

Yeah I was so sure they would give it to them, even after conferring. Totally shocked when they made a right call after so many bad ones the last ten minutes and overtime.

This is absolutely correct. I posted in a thread earlier that it was the best officiated UK game I had seen so far this year.

Then the absolute debacle of the last ten mins and overtime came and it suddenly was a joke. All of the rough let em play was suddenly gone and every touch foul on UK was called including multiple just obvious flops. Add in the BS charges that wiped off at least 2-3 baskets for UK and it’s a damn miracle the guys were able to pull this one out.

Unbelievable. It was like someone had flipped a switch and the refs went from fair consistent and uniform to just all out screw job.

Lol what..none of them stay on the floor to begin with and EJ cannot keep his hands straight up to save his life bc he tries to block everything. Sestina just isnt athletic enough to stay on front of his man.

It's God awful officiating, but it's as it always has been. Seeing it for over 45 years. It's never going to end. But the great thing is..... All these road game super bowl / wet t-shirt/ blackout/whiteout/ free beer night and every time 5 vs. 8 on the court .... and ...... we ...... STILL WIN ! (So many more times than not.....)

Lots to be happy for in BBN tonight!!!

That's it right there, isn't it. They really think the crowd is cheering for them, and I know it's a narcotic. They can't help themselves. They don't care about getting the calls right, they want to be the center of attention at the end of the game so they engineer it to make sure it's close.

Didn’t like the foul on IQ on the three or the ridiculous screen foul on Nate.

The charge on IQ was correct although the defender did slide maybe 2/3 inches with IQ in the air. But he was there before Quick left his feet.

How was it correct?

Do you have to be set to take a charge?
By rule, yes. (I know that doesn't apply to push offs and lowering the shoulder, but that didn't happen here.)

Was he set?
No he was not, as you said, he moved 2-3 inches after IQ left the floor.

Therefore the defender had no right to that position and the correct call would have been a block and an and one.

You can see it in their body language even. When they call a charge on the away team, for example, they really throw themselves into it when they point the opposite direction.

That call was awful but so to were
The over and back call
The charge on quickley
The sestina screen
The traveling calls were suspect

This is off the top of my head
Couple of bad out of bounds calls where it was clear TT tipped or touched it but they refused to review.

That moving screen on Sestina was a joke too.
Especially considering Texas tech had moving screens multiple times per play. Then when it’s a tight game; they call that against sestina. That call, and his phantom last call that fouled him out and tied the game we’re just awful.

The first possession in OT, tech missed the shot and knocked it out of bounds and they gave them the ball back. Didn’t look close to me and Quickley couldn’t believe they said it was off him
