Watching Northwestern vs OSU; Every game you watch there is just no consistency as to what a foul is in this league; They have called 5 fouls on OSU in the first 7 and a half minutes, if they called our game anything like this game well you all know the rest

Home teams generally do better with fouls than away teams. Or so it seems. See Illinois @ RU, RU @ tOSU, tOSU @ NU.

Saw something last week about officiating around the entire nation and right now it is two things in particular: charge/block calls, and the rule of verticality or whatever it is that Myles constantly (and wrongly) gets called against him. There is simply ZERO consistency!

I am no one special that’s for damn sure.
I don’t hold myself in higher regard than any of my message board Rutgers brothers on this site.
But I can safely say, if I were a Ref, Ump, or official of ANY kind, my goal and promise to myself would be call the game 100% completely fair for both teams the best I knew how, and secondly would be to not allow home team bias to influence me in any way, shape or form!
How in the world could anyone disagree with this philosophy?
If I were on a crew implementing my philosophy at all times, and saw my crew obviously abuse their integrity on a regular basis, I’d quit and rat them out.
How is this not standard in the industry?
I’m so sick of hearing Penn St held on every play, but it doesn’t get called because it’s Penn St...WTF, what human with integrity would allow themselves to officiate like that?

I think it also has to do with the way the game is played and “point of emphasis” stuff from year to year. It’s a total crap show.

F’k all this.
The only point of emphasis for every official should be integrity.
Their incompetence should be totally equal for both teams

A FREAKIN MEN!
I thought the Big East refs were bad and we'd see a whole new level of reffing in the B1G. Unfortunately I think the level is at or below .

No one has answered this but do refs ever get fired? It seems like once you get the job it becomes a job for life. The bottom rated refs should get replaced. Have some accountability and motivation to perform

They appear to be like weathermen. They only are expected to be correct half the time.

It’s not about integrity at the P-5 collegiate level. It’s about conferences maxing out their ncaa tourney roster. It’s about protecting conference cash flow. And unfortunately adverse selection leads to candidates who are part of betting rings and other unscrupulous activities.

As bad as some of the officiating is its amazing it isn’t even worse given these factors.

If I were a Ref in the B1G, I’d make it my business to not be aware of anything you just stated.
I guess I’d be fired for being impartial...lol.
Who’d a thunk impartiality and fairness would get you the axe

Or as was said in the other thread you started about Garza and even by Bardo that Garza doesn't get those calls against him why is that it's utter BS he probably sets at least 3-4 illegal picks a game and watch how much he pushes guys in the back on revbounds and nothing is called again as you say Zap the game should be reffed fairly and it just isn't. Watching the Louisville Kentucky game today they let them play there were 3 times where guys went down trying to draw charges and in my opinion they made no calls 3 times which they should do many of the times

Anyone else watching today’s games still shell shocked from our OSU game. Every time a player sets a screen, boxes out, or plays D, I’m thinking that would have been a foul on Myles.

Boroski just T-d up miller in the indiana illinois game. Calls are now going indiana’s way for now. It does work to call out the bs.

Nothing ever happened to the 3 refs that blew the end of the St. Johns game a few years back.

There are three things that get me absolutely irate about the officiating

1.) they should not be taking to one coach without talking to the other coach at mid court. Coaches comments should be white noise

2.) the definition of a foul really needs to be applied. Contact doesn’t mean there is a foul. Contact where there is an advantage/disadvantage gained by the contact is the foul call. (This is why I’m going crazy about the fouls on Myles...on three, There wasn’t anything that Myles did that caused an advantage or disadvantage)

3.) the calls need to be consistent by the entire crew. There are too many fines where one ref in a crew has a loose whistle and one has a tight whistle. And whatever Way they start calling in the first minute should be the same in the last minute. It’s awful when they call a tight whistle early ...then let it become a free for all at the end. Same calls for forty minutes

The vast majority of Refs are fair and try to get it right. Human error creates bad calls even with the best Refs. There are are a handful of Regs who try to be fair but are incompetent.

They did not officiate any remaining games in the Big East tournament that year. Why there wasn’t anything more severe, I don’t know.
