The meeting with Reeves should have taken less than a minute.
Cal - "We have nothing to talk about, I have nothing to sell you on, you played here for a year and if you want to play for me next year, you've got 30 seconds to tell me so, otherwise good luck and get the hell out of my office."

That's fine and all. I'm not necessarily against the approach of "you need us" and I think it CAN work..

But we can't be surprised if a lot of players take to it. On one hand we'd all LOVE for Cal to tell it like it is to Reeves.. but then he leaves.. and then we go "what did you do Cal?!". With NIL in place, more so then ever before, the coaches need to cater to players.. and they can't cater to EVERY player's wants. You either kiss the ring of the players, or you run the risk of not being able to field a team.. at least not a good one.

Need to lock up Reeves, add Kaluma from the portal, get Cyril to reclass and come here, add Burks and Hart for depth.

Priorities:

1. Reeves- need his experience.
2. Kaluma- ditto.
3. Cyril- need his size/strength inside.
4. Burks- need some depth/good potential.
5. Hart- ditto.

“Need to lock up Reeves”. How stupid is it that we are talking about locking up our own players? What Caliprairie has done to our program is unforgivable. So sad. NIL money is partially to blame I’m sure, but our coach owns this; the culture. Every year our players leave like rats fleeing a sinking ship. This was happening well before NIL. IMO after a year of hearing GooooOOOOOO and getting screamed at all game, why would they want to come back?

If Reeves don't know by now, what he wants to do, he would before he left Cals office if Cal was a no-nonsense coach. Every player is watching and waiting to see how this plays out, and right now Cal looks pretty weak.

He's also a senior with little to no NBA aspirations, so this is the last year he can capitalize before going overseas somewhere. Why stay here on the bench with a coach that clearly doesn't believe in you when you could go elsewhere?

He wants money and a starting job somewhere. Meanwhile we're not offering him an exact amount of NIL money and likely telling him he 's the 6th or 7th man because we already promised starting jobs to the incoming freshmen.
Yeah that Memphis FedEx $$$ and becoming a 1st or 2nd offensive option has convinced Reeves to jump ship.

I have a feeling he is going to drag it out until Friday or next week. If not today, he is really holding the team hostage and I don’t see him coming back. But, I see Cal offer him the dorm and facilities while he graduates and leaves. That is just how Cal is as a person.

I think Cal knows after their meeting Monday, even if/though not made public, even if it's not 100% one way or the other. But even if he didn't know, we are only being "held hostage" if there are other options for his spot, which I'm not aware of any (doesn't mean their aren't some). There have been other options, but not sure of any remaining. The Hart kid is probably not ready for that role, but could be in a year or two.

If he wants to work out on his own. Sure. But if he's leaving, should not take away any time of our staff. He can even play in pickup games w/ our guys, give them practice defending a good scorer.

If Reeves decided to transfer, nothing will be said about it until he finishes his class work and graduates, IMHO.

He probably asked Cal to keep it quiet. I mean, would you want to be taking classes on campus with everyone knowing your leaving the team high and dry?

I would keep my mouth shut and let everyone think I am still weighing my options. That way nobody on campus gives you crap about leaving.

I mean I don't think a UNC beat writer would have any scoop that Kentucky or national guys don't have. I am sure he is just speculating since the rumors are out there of Reeves transferring.
He probably is but he may be getting the vibe from people that reeves is transferring. If reeves were coming back I feel like something would have came out between now and yesterday after his meeting with cal

What confuses me is that when Oscar left Cal talked about Oscar could have made record NIL this coming season. Why not get Reeves part of this now?

We‘ll hear something , cause he will have to make his intention known to the other school and their admission people I’d guess .

What's crazy is acting like Reeves is a phenomenal player. He had some good moments and yes I want him back because of his experience. But, he is not an elite superstar either and the fact that he isn't seeing Kentucky as the luckiest break of his career says a lot of where our program also exists at present.

At this point Reeves realizes UK needs him bad

Can he leverage that? LIke others have said, Cal might Norman Dale and tell him his team is on the floor

Ad if he stays at UK that might be the luckiest break this team will have this year.

Why give reeves anything? He isn’t a game changer for us. He won’t even start imo. If they had “record” nil money to throw around we wouldn’t be in this predicament
