Hope you are right, but didn't see it in the McDonald's game
He missed one of his rotations for an interview & played like 12 mins but still led his team in assists. He’s not the type of guy who you’ll see show out in an all-star game where everyone is trying to score one on one. But in an organized game, he’ll shine. He was the best player on the floor last summer against Dillingham and Bronny’s AAU team. Considering he’s a top 50 guy, it was crazy how many guys on the AA team said he was the most underrated player there when interviewed.

Simple question..is Reed not the type of player we want at UK.He can help us,he wants to be here and he isn't saying he wants out as fast as he can.Isnt this the type of player we want..Travis Perry could be next,do we want him as well.
I think Perry is far from sold on UK. He seems like a BIG 10 player.

Yeah reeds a stud. Only issue will be strength against 23 year old men. I would expect him to play a lot of minutes.

Michigan is apparently pretty active in his recruitment as well. I think he is more of a Purdue guy though.
He's got good range on his shot.I would hope we would really take a good look at him but I get the feeling we might have came late to the party.Purdue has been on him hard.

Cal always has one player he seems to "forget about" and I have a feeling Sheppard will be that one. Mainly because there will be a bunch of fans wanting the local kid to get lots of playing time and Cal doesn't like the fans trying to pressure him into playing who we want. Just look at this past season when it was clear as day who should be playing and yet it took him way to long to figure it out.

I would hope that's not the case.I think Reed isn't going to let Calipari forget about him.Hes gonna play and contribute

He doesn't have the quickness as some other guards. He is athletic enough, but not as much as his dad was. But he is skilled, and in the McD game looked to play very smart. But he is also coming in with 2 very good guards. So, I think his PT will be limited (8mpg max) as a FR, but that as a SOPH he will be in the top 7-8 guys, and starting as a JR (regardless who is coach).

Recall Jeff sat out his 4th/SR year because he didn't want to be coming off the bench behind Epps/Turner & DA in 97. And that patience worked out really well for him with a title & F4 MVP in 98 (although putting him in for DA when he got hurt may have been enough to get us B2B championships in 96-97, but then no F4 in 98).

Reed will get PT, you can bet on it. He's simply too good to not spell the 2 and 3 spots this season.

I just don't think Cal will be able to screw this situation up, and quite possibly he won't be allowed to either.

Because Cal hates McDonald's All-Americans...

Nah, but you know what Cal clearly hates? The fans telling him what to do, and more importantly the fans being right. Meanwhile the fans were clamoring for Reed long before Cal was actively recruiting him, and they will definitely be actively demanding to see him play. If there is one thing I absolutely trust Cal to do, it’s going out of his way to try to prove the “dumb Kentucky fans” wrong.

you guys never mention him when talking about playing time next year...is that intentional or ignorance.....kid is a player...he will be major player
I have said it multiple times and will say it again, if he can really defend he will play plenty. If he gets beat every trip down the court he won't do much here.

Offense wasn't the only problem last season, defense was a big part of it. Hopefully we have a real rim protector next season, but if not the guards that can stay in front of their man will play the most.

I do think that it is kinda funny everybody is talking about getting another shooter, well Reed got 2nd in McDonald's game and beat the Duke kid in the prelims, so basically we are getting at minimum a top 5 shooter out of high-school regardless of another player out of the portal.

I am no Cal apologist, but I doubt he recruited Reed to not give him a chance. I expect Reed to impress in his limited minutes next year. He may be the cornerstone of the 2024-2025 time...with or without Cal.
On average I can see him getting 10 minutes a game, possibly a few more.I think he will help us and fans who haven't had the opportunity to watch him play will be pleased.

He's just as good as Wagner or Dillingham and probably has a better basketball IQ.Not knocking either Wagner or Dillingham either as both are good players.Should be no reason Reed can't get plenty of minutes next season. The kid can shoot and is a way underrated passer. He has a good eye for the open man.I expect him to be a contributor and if he isn't,it's because the coach misuses him.
I think he is a better team player than those guys but not as good one on one. Reed was last in minutes played out of 24 players in the McDonald’s all American game. Even though he was last in minutes, he was 5th in rebounds, 3rd in assists, and 2nd in steals amongst all 24 players from both teams.

His AAU team was fun to watch. He was the highest ranked player on his team and they destroyed Strive for Greatness, an AAU team stacked with UK commit Robert Dillingham, Duke commit Mackenzie Mgbako, LeBron James’ son Bronny and others

If I remember right, the rotation he played with hit the floor as he was about to begin his tv interview. Probably hampered some of those minutes. The thing that stood out to me was the interviews when they asked for the most underrated player there and a bunch of guys picked him, which I thought was weird as highly as he was ranked. I think he’ll be a major contributor his sophomore season at least, and I was one of the people kind of doubting him a few years ago.

Late in the game he was not on the floor, he had flashes of good play but couldn't/didn't stay in front of his man on defense. I saw him play at Barren County and came away not as impressed as I thought I would be. Sure the kid understands basketball and has skills that he has worked on since he could walk. We will see how that translates at the D1 level. If UK still has their "pro day" in the fall and all the measurables are listed we will see how that works out. I'll wait till then to be corrected, ridiculed and eat crow if it is still on the menu

Reed will be best in class for UK. He's Mr. Versatility.
I expect Shepherd to be the best recruit in the class. The reason is simply that I expect him to be around for multiple seasons, and as an upperclassman I think he probably (1) has a bigger impact on winning than any of the freshmen who leave after one season; and (2) is a better player then than any of the freshmen will be next season..

Shepherd is 6'2" at best. He might have a tough time guarding a SF in man-to-man. But I actually think his best position is PG.

That sounds like the Peyton Siva > John Wall argument. Regardless, you need to lower your expectations for the kid. He's not going to be 1998 Jeff Sheppard.

After pro day, if it's still pre-season, won't be crow eating time. That'll come at the end of the season. Players' measurables are way down the list of things I'd use to predict future success on the floor. We've seen too many off the chart athletes lately who have very limited skill sets.
