Again, if kid wants to even have a chance at going pro, UVA is not the way to go.
Like seriously, what is one good thing about going there? Playing boring *** basketball? Sure, it’s academically strong. Maybe one of the best in the country when it comes to that. But Reed also wants to play basketball.
I try to respect Bennett’s ability, but good grief, his style of play is so old old school. People gripe about Cal being stuck in the 80s? Yeeesh. Watching UVA is just not fun most of the time.
I mean 26 points in the 1st half the other night. And that’s pretty average for his squads.
There’s just so much more UK can offer Reed.
Call me old school, but I’ve always liked watching Bennett’s teams (I know that makes me the exception around here) and think he’s an outstanding coach.
The reason their games tend to be low scoring are twofold. First, they play
outstanding transition defense …nearly every year better than anyone else in the country …teams don’t get quick and easy fast break buckets against Virginia, instead they have to work hard to find their shots. Second, Virginia doesn’t take bad shots. They work the ball to find the right shot. It’s not like they’re bad offensively, as they usually rank quite high in offensive efficiency. It’s just that they take more time to make sure they find the right shot than other teams.
To me, that’s just smart basketball. But, because it results in lower scoring games, a lot of UK fan seem to think it’s bad basketball. I can see why Reed would be interested in UVA, especially when you see the impressive success players who look and play a lot like him (see Kyle Guy, Joe Harris, Ty Jerome, etc.) have had there.
