I know you said 4 & 3 star players, but the Blazers backcourt of Lillard and McCollum really stand out to me. Lillard was a 2 star and I think McCollum was a "no star". Both have turned out to be fantastic NBA players.

Being ranked seems to be the cutoff. Figure top 150 in the country if your in that then your top 2 or 3 in your state. Thats hardly underrated.

Hard to call a 4 star kid underrated. That is still a really high rating for HS player.

It is when you're getting drafted to play in the NBA regardless of class. 60 get drafted each year, half of which don't get a gauranteed contract.

Booker being ranked around 40th in his class, and then getting drafted 13th regardless of class after 1 season clearly shows he was underrated. And I'm sure there are much better examples than that. Just one I'm familiar with.

I know he probably didn't play in the states, but was Giannis on anybody's radar during the junior ranks? Dude is a beast. Paul George another that comes to mind. Never really heard of him until the nba either..

Wasnt booker a 5 star? Dont think he was under rated. He nor his father felt he was ready to be a OAD before he came here. I remember interviews with them saying as much.

Just because a player actually develops while in school doesnt mean that they were underrated prior to going to school. It can mean the put in hard work that helped them become a much better player.

Truthfully, if your rated in the top 50 of your class you can never say your underrated. I mean think about how crazy that is. You are one of the 50 best high-school kids playing basketball in the nation... actually more than that when you consider the foreign field. So that is a quite a statement when you look at how many kids actually play high school basketball.

No being top 50 is never under rated.

The one thing in common is that hardly non of them was one and done. It took them a few years to develop.

I think he ended up being a low five star in the final rankings before the season began, but if you did the rankings after the season, Bledsoe would have been a top 10 recruit.

I was just going off of Wall2Boogie's rankings in his OP at #34. That ain't 5 star. I know some had him at 5 star. So I see what your saying.

Regardless what he or his dad felt. He was underrated. The guy went lottery after his freshman year as a bench player.

I only selected 3 and 4 stars because these guys were expected to be 4 yr guys and ride the bench in the d league. They weren't meant to become stars. You can throw josh harrelson in the mix as well.

Jeremy lamb was an instant contributor at u conn. I believe he was drafted in the top 10 also. He was ranked somewhere in the seventies if I'm not mistaken

Hate him if you want, but old Tom Crean has proven adept at finding hidden talent.

Dwyane Wade, Victor Olidipo. Nobody recruited OG Anunoby but IU, and the guy is going to be a lottery pick this year.

If you are a top 50-100 you aren't underrated as you have a decent chance to at least get a look from the NBA . But it is the guys who aren't top 150 who make the NBA like Curry that this would be about. Or as someone else said both the Trailblazers guards . Booker was a 5 star . If you are a 5 star you are expected to make the NBA .

I'm not sure if all of those players were underrated radio, I think people forget that sometimes players just develop later in their careers. At the time almost all of them were as good as other guys that were ranked ahead of them.

It's a tough job these recruiting gurus have to do. I think some players from small schools who don't play in the big AAU leagues are the ones who slip by.

I will say this, some of the guys the OP listed were actually rated about right, when you're talking about how elite and dominant they can be right away. For example Kennedy Meeks was mentioned. I think he was rated about right coming out of high school. Right now he's a top 25-30 player but not as a freshman.

Also, some of these guys have gone on to be better NBA players than they ever were in college- they're late bloomers.

Junior Braddy and Scott Padgett. Braddy was actually headed for a baseball career in the minors and I'm not sure how he ended up at UK but literally came out of no where. I don't think anyone thought Padgett would become the player he did at UK.

Nazr Mohammed. The dude was a useless blob when he got to Kentucky. Ended up a nearly 20 year pro.

During the blowout game against LSU in1996 Nazr got quite a few minutes. He was still overweight but had some good moves around the basket. Ironically, a friend of mine of work that was not a UK fan told me that he was impressed with Nazr and that he thought he would be a star at UK someday. We all know the rest of the story.
