Recruits/Players and Message Boards....

Any of you posters that think recruits/players pay much attention to what’s said on message boards might be a bit out of touch. If a kid decides not to go to a certain school because of their online fans, that kid was a risk of being a head case snowflake anyway.

Majority of the time, 4/5* talent make their decision based on a few things but it’s not a message board.

1. Where do I have offers?
2. Which coach will get me into the league?
3. Where do I feel comfortable?

3* and lower might care because those guys know they have to work harder but if message board fans get in their heads and hurt their feelings, will any of these players ever be able to make it at the highest level? Those guys will have to be pushed harder and work harder and likely need a coach calling them names to harden them up some. If you can’t take a coach that has a vested interest in you calling you a name, how will you react when a player on the field is eating your lunch and then throws a name out between plays that causes said player to get a penalty or just destroys your mind and makes you play worse?

I know this isn’t a One Size Fits All but it’s for sure a One Size Fits Most.

I think message boards have less than a 1% involvement. Twitter has about 10% b/c it's so much easier to interact with the player.

Have to ask Cohen about that? Or one of the “insiders” or people with “sources”

Message board matter very little. They probably did a little back in the day before social media but not anymore.

Think of it this way. Message board/FB/Twitter posters trash a former player/recruit (or even current player) of school A. Those comments get back to former player of school A, some don't care, most do. High profile recruit is targeted by school A; he happens to be a relative, friend or somehow influenced by former player/recruit of school A. Thrashing of former player/recruit, certainly doesn't help in that recruiting situation.

For example, Marcus Murphy gets trashed on line (message boards, twitter, FB, etc) for opting out (even though his 3 year old needs a bone marrow transplant), those comments get back to him. What if his brother, cousin, etc., is a 5 star recruit, the trashing of Marcus certainly don't help. Same with Kylin Hill, his DNA likely runs through young football players in the Columbus area that may be a target of ours over the next few years.

It’s not about direct recruiting. It’s about pervasive negative thoughts and ideas. It’s an infection within the program much like bad seeds in a locker room.

I’m all about constructive criticism and the occasional venting. That’s what birthed this board.

But about ten posters go much further. People were literally posting that Will Rogers can never play in the SEC after the vandy game. It’s ridiculous. And the stupidity builds and builds and builds and hurts the program. This program needs our support and positivity. If we are sitting here a year from now getting blown out weekly, I get it. But that’s not going to happen. Get on board and let’s change our profile and compete in the sec west.

Message board negativity could impact a recruit’s influencers (mama, dad **, the uncle with the hand out, etc)

Any 5* considering State won’t give a crap about Marcus Murphy’s thoughts. That 5* is considering them because he feels he will be in the league no matter what and thinks the systems at State will showcase his talents the best and thinks he would enjoy being there.

Kylin Hill seems to be a product of a swollen head that seemingly put himself above the team and got put in his place. Kids that listen to him and don’t realize that are already on the wrong end of spectrum for success in big time college football.

Sure, a 17 yo 5* with 40 P5 offers really makes decisions that rationally! Please. They think they can make the league from any school. So it's a combination of things, even their thoughts on how much the coaches and fans like them, that ultimately influence their decisions.

Yeah but... those nutty fans don’t have ridiculously high expectations of beating Bama, LSU, Auburn, Texas A&M, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri. Arkansas, South Carolina, and Ole Miss like ours. We spose ta know our place!***

Hopefully anyone with Kylin Hill bloodline will stay the hell away. Absolute cancer.
