Agree - then again looking back if I remember correctly he was one of those lighter weight studs that was always way older than opponents to the point he aged out of NJ and went to PA for senior year.I thought Ungar would have been so much better
He left after his sophomore year when he beat same age Klinsky in the state finals, who is now 11th seed in the national tournament. Ungar was a stud coming out of high school, nearly top 25 P4P, but is an example of a kid not panning out, which you’d think only happens at Rutgers the way some people here talk.Agree - then again looking back if I remember correctly he was one of those lighter weight studs that was always way older than opponents to the point he aged out of NJ and went to PA for senior year.
Klinsky has the worst receding hairline in the NCAA. If things go chalk he’s lining up to have a R12 match against PetersonHe left after his sophomore year when he beat same age Klinsky in the state finals, who is now 11th seed in the national tournament. Sontz dad is a pompous dude but his his son is a 3x state champ. It’s not like he’s bragging about some kid at montville high school who took 3rd in the districts.I showed my buddy who lives in Fairfield, NJ this blog. Even though its not the same circumstances, he mentiond this Sontz kids father as a real character, too.Apparently he parlays the rec programs to benefit his kids, and then jumps ship to private schools and even became a columnist in one of local papers/ media outlets to brag about his kids accomplishments.Apparently, not to seem obvious, he will throw a couple of praising scraps to other athletes. The running joke in the town is, is that he ranks up there with some of the top back stabbers.
Rec programs rarely have anything nice to say about the families that bail for privates. IDK about the Sontz stuff, but even if some of it were true there are definitely waaaaay worse.I showed my buddy who lives in Fairfield, NJ this blog. Apparently they have a hell of a staff there with carl monaco and billy templeton as coaches. To that point, the girls team were apparently looking good, until quite few girls got injured. I looked at the later stats of the girl's team and they had two girls left. One state place winner and one first year wrestler , who was a middle weight (I think 152 or 145) that seemed to really make an impact. They had 3 state qualifiers, which is solid. My point is, is that programs can't get better if great athletes jump ship.To add insult to injury, apparently this Sontz guy loves to use the town and its resources as a platform to promote his kids, yet has zero interest or loyalty to its athetics and academic program. My buddys son wrestled at same club in fairfield as Sontzs son Cameron. He said that the guy would turn his back on you in a heartbeat. He said pompous is an under statement. More like untrustworthy.Sontz dad is a pompous dude but his his son is a 3x state champ. Sontz is really an Edge kid, Ernie trains him personally.Apparently they have a hell of a staff there with carl monaco and billy templeton as coaches. To that point, the girls team were apparently looking good, until quite few girls got injured. I mean Ernie Brother Carl is the assistant coach for Montville. His kid wrestles at Columbia now but was a state qualifier for them a few years backSontz is really an Edge kid, Ernie trains him personally.
I thought Sontz was being trained by Raimo. Scorpions, The Edge, Cordoba, Raimo....says alot about the father and his loyalty.I mean Ernie Brother Carl is the assistant coach for Montville. His kid wrestles at Columbia now but was a state qualifier for them a few years back
Kids train at many places now . It's about partners more than loyalty. Not in every situation when a kid trains at multiple places does that mean their or the parents loyalty should be questionedI thought Sontz was being trained by Raimo. Crazy to me that he hasn’t panned out. 2x state champ and 2x runner up. His brother liked to party but he’s always been pretty disciplined.Anthony Santaniello leaving Pitt. Joining his brother at TCNJ or Rider?
Happens everywhere for numerous reasons.Crazy to me that he hasn’t panned out. 2x state champ and 2x runner up. His brother liked to party but he’s always been pretty disciplined.
What’s crazier to me is how many ppl here thought being a 4x NJ finalist meant he would automatically crush it in college. When I been saying it’s who you beat that matters more then state titles. Incredible hs wrestler but he was not considered a blue chipper going into college.Crazy to me that he hasn’t panned out. 2x state champ and 2x runner up. He was a top 50 overall recruit and he beat Stanich, Mougalian , Aidan Wallace , tallamage . All successful D1 wrestlers while in high school. The Santaniellos and Tallmage are probably just burnt out bc their family overtrained them growing upWhat’s crazier to me is how many ppl here thought being a 4x NJ finalist meant he would automatically crush it in college. Speaking of which, Degeorge might go on to be a 2x state champ and 2x runner up in NJ
, just like Santaniello, if he wins it his final year but rn id say he is not considered a blue chip recruit.. has potential tho..
He beat Luke Stanich and Evan Mougalian in high school. Stanich just took 3rd in the country and Mougalian was a round of 16 kid. Also multiple wins over Jack Zaleski who at one point was a Rutgers commit. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s an option here if we can’t find anyone better. Pretty sure his father was Goodale’s college teammate. What’s crazier to me is how many ppl here thought being a 4x NJ finalist meant he would automatically crush it in college. I’m not saying Santaniello wasn’t a good recruit but the people thinking he was a can’t miss prospect(def AA right out the gate) were being overly optimistic. Blue chippers = top 10 p4p class recruit, sometimes top 15 in some years and even these guys don’t pan out sometimes….He was a top 50 overall recruit and he beat Stanich, Mougalian , Aidan Wallace , tallamage . All successful D1 wrestlers while in high school. The Santaniellos and Tallmage are probably just burnt out bc their family overtrained them growing up
Stanich was ranked #74 on big board on his recruiting class so the wrestler he is now is far diff then the one Santaniello beat in hs… more weight gotta be put on most recent results not so and so beat this guy 5 years ago when they were 103 pound freshmans or something… lolHe beat Luke Stanich and Evan Mougalian in high school. Stanich just took 3rd in the country and Mougalian was a round of 16 kid. Also multiple wins over Jack Zaleski who at one point was a Rutgers commit. I do think Degeorge got solid upside.. was just saying if he becomes 2x champ 4x NJ finalist.. that would basically mirror A. Santaniello’s 2x champ 4x finalist.Even though he ended up losing big vs Blair, he looked impressive
If he gets developed, I think he can be a solid piece
NJ results are nice but in this wrestling age you need to win or place high at events like s32, NHSCA, Ironman, Journeymen, etc. to be a true blue-chipper. Still doesn’t guarantee success and plenty of guys get overlooked but national results matter. Plus, age differences and weight-cuts account for a lot of WTF losses/wins.What’s crazier to me is how many ppl here thought being a 4x NJ finalist meant he would automatically crush it in college. Yeah .. I wasn't arguing with you...just commenting on DegeorgeI do think Degeorge got solid upside.. was just saying if he becomes 2x champ 4x NJ finalist.. that would basically mirror A. Santaniello’s 2x champ 4x finalist.
I think that 2006 NJ wrestling state champion class is what made me think, back then, that if you were a NJ champ, let alone multiple time champ, then you had a really good shot at D1 wrestling… then when Goodale became head coach of RU and started rounding up all the NJ state champs… it really felt like we were going to rise up very fast… had to learn hard way national rankings/results matter too… lolNJ results are nice but in this wrestling age you need to win or place high at events like s32, NHSCA, Ironman, Journeymen, etc. to be a true blue-chipper. 100%Agree.I think has an incredible upside. He has get better from bottom positioning and scrambles. When he fixes that, he should lethal in college.Im really excited to see Magro in the line up.That kid has that it factor.Super physical and relentless.I see him a high AA in the future.Santaniello was an AA for TCNJ this year.TCNJ athletics seem to be really taking especially their wrestling and track team. For the money, you cant beat the academics, and athetics.I do think Degeorge got solid upside.. was just saying if he becomes 2x champ 4x NJ finalist.. that would basically mirror A. Degeorge top game is elite but those leg rides and claw tilts are going to burn him Soldano style unless he gets thicker and stronger.100%Agree.I think has an incredible upside. His brother was a NQ for Rider so there is potential but Rhett probably a depth guy until he proves otherwise.no boom tweet, but rutgers just pinked up a commitment from Rhett Washleski. 5th place at NJ states this year. Class of 2026.
He qualified for Virginia this year as well. Yea I agree I think the big ten will chew him up but he could be successful at a lower conferenceHis brother was a NQ for Rider so there is potential but Rhett probably a depth guy until he proves otherwise.
We need higher level recruits to compete in the B10.Christian Alvarez to North Carolina for football and Wrestling.
2 Delsea guys. Petit the 21 seed who won states and DePaul who recently decommited to Buffalo both took visits to Rutgers this week
