CJ Betz.Hey so would anyone have any word on why Tanner Hodgins moved up to 215 for post season?
Plus Tanner was working hard to make 190.

He wrestled the majority of his matches at 215/285 this year. A lot of these kids once they sign don’t want to spend 3 months sucking weight.Hey so would anyone have any word on why Tanner Hodgins moved up to 215 for post season?
I still for the life of me dont understand why USC doesnt have a D1 team. Wish they did so we would have an excuse to wrestle in CA at least once every other year. Well maybe Stanford finds themselves in the B1G at some point so we get that lol.CJ Huerta finished 2nd @ 138 in CA states, losing 8-24 against #1 Moses Mendoza.
It’s strange bc in the article about it says Hodgins had to go 190 because he could make it and O’Rourke couldnt And Hodgins did it for the team but then O’Rourke made 190 for districtsCJ Betz.

Hodgins and Betz train together. From what I hear Betz was getting the better of Hodgins so why risk a state championship when Hodgins is instant favorite at 215 and doesn’t have to cut. It’s strange bc in the article about it says Hodgins had to go 190 because he could make it and O’Rourke couldnt And Hodgins did it for the team but then O’Rourke made 190 for districts
Not exactly the mindset I’d expect from a p4p recruit committed to Ok StateHodgins and Betz train together. From what I hear Betz was getting the better of Hodgins so why risk a state championship when Hodgins is instant favorite at 215 and doesn’t have to cut.
Think his ranking was a bit inflated due to freestyle results… think he will be like Ludington, good recruit but won’t be contending for AA right away. Don’t see how he cracks Ok State lineup anytime soon either..Not exactly the mindset I’d expect from a p4p recruit committed to Ok State
Agree. He’s talented but needs to dial back the funk - gets himself in some bad positions.Think his ranking was a bit inflated due to freestyle results… think he will be like Ludington, good recruit but won’t be contending for AA right away. I'm skeptical of this myself; the rumor mill can be vicious at times though. Not exactly the mindset I’d expect from a p4p recruit committed to Ok State
Yes and no. In the end, wrestlers want that gold medal. If one path doesnt seem realistic, choose the better option. Not exactly the mindset I’d expect from a p4p recruit committed to Ok State
If a kid has a 90% chance to win it at 215 without having to cut for next two weeks, or less than 50% chance at 190 while struggling to make weight, seems like a no brainer to me.I'm skeptical of this myself; the rumor mill can be vicious at times though.
Palumbo is a solid wrestler but he needs to jump levels if he wants to ever crack the RU line-up. Based on what I’ve seen this season he’s arguably a depth or practice room guy.Well damn. Hodgins techs Palumbo for a region title. Looks solid at the weight.
Yea unless he cuts to 197 which idk if it’s even possible he’s a depth guy at 285. I know he’s out for the year now but I think the kid Jackson from Paul VI has some real untapped potential and he’s a natural pinner, whens the last time we had a pinner In the lineupPalumbo is a solid wrestler but he needs to jump levels if he wants to ever crack the RU line-up. There’s nothing arguably about it.. he’s def just a depth/room guy and there’s nothing wrong w that. Whoever cracks the RU lineup at this point gotta at least have potential to be a NQ, or would be considered a “hole” weight. Palumbo was ranked 20th in hs weight class.Palumbo is a solid wrestler but he needs to jump levels if he wants to ever crack the RU line-up. I've been asking about Alex Bajoras. Is he seen as someone with potential? What's going on with him? There’s nothing arguably about it.. he’s def just a depth/room guy and there’s nothing wrong w that. I hope Palumbo can make lvl jump like SCW but that’s more exception not expectations.
Agree - I’d be surprised if he had any other legit offers but SG must think he’s got something. There’s nothing arguably about it.. he’s def just a depth/room guy and there’s nothing wrong w that. Soldano and Turley. Olivieri has a nasty cradle, Bulsak had a reliable power half/double boots.Yea unless he cuts to 197 which idk if it’s even possible he’s a depth guy at 285. I meant in college . Soldano pinned a good amount of people but none of those other guys are pinners... Turley had 13 pins in 5 years and they were mostly backups at tournaments. Joey has 12 pins in 4 years , 5 this year 4 of which are guys with 3-13 records or worse.Soldano and Turley. Olivieri has a nasty cradle, Bulsak had a reliable power half/double boots.
How many pins would you need to be considered a pinner? Pins are hard to come by in college, I’d still consider Turley a pinner.I meant in college . Someone who pins guys at ncaas and in the quarter/semis of their conference tournament. Sammy Sasso was a pinner he had 25 career pins with a few at ncaasHow many pins would you need to be considered a pinner? Pins are hard to come by in college, I’d still consider Turley a pinner.
I mean.. anyone that can consistently pin d1 competition is probably pretty good…Soldano probably the closest we had to a “pinner”. With that style there will be variance… still looking for the next Ash/Suriano..Someone who pins guys at ncaas and in the quarter/semis of their conference tournament. Is there now MORE beyond what you've already discussed before?Palumbo is not a good person and the sooner he realizes the big 10 isn’t for him, the better off we are.
Yeah, let’s clarify = Palumbo not a good person or wrestler? Is there now MORE beyond what you've already discussed before?
It’s a piss-poor story and half *** reporting mainly because the other family didn’t comment and there are a lot of facts that were left out. Now with that said - if Joey grew up 20 years ago none of this would have blown up. But “let the boys be boys” stuff just doesn’t fly anymore go ask PJ Casale. Not to mention that you def don’t get sideways with a law enforcement family which was probably his biggest mistake.
sorry for the paywall but this is a crazy story .Father seems like a piece of work but Monticello the kid seems like he got screwed over in all this
The fact that coach defended Monticello and resigned/got fired over this leads me to believe there is some truth to this version but I’m just speaking about the kid and his actions , the dad that’s another story lolIt’s a piss-poor story and half *** reporting mainly because the other family didn’t comment and there are a lot of facts that were left out. For some reason, Twitter blessed me with no paywall when I opened it up.What's the story
Not quite , he was kicked off the team in the beginning of January and the swatting incident happened in March. Also 0 witnesses to the alleged slur , the coach even swore he was with Monticello the whole time and he didn’t say anything and they still expelled the kid. I, sure glad I’d didnt grow up in this soft generationFor some reason, Twitter blessed me with no paywall when I opened it up.
The TLDR; is that Joey Monticello and a former teammate at Don Bosco had bad blood, he allegedly called the teammate a homophobic slur, which got him the boot from Don Bosco in the aftermath. He had to miss the state tournament when that happened last year, when the teammate's house got SWATted that same weekend. Now Monticello's dad is getting sued while Joey is wrestling for Hanover Park.
I kinda petered out on typing more details quickly. But yeah, this is all correct. Not quite , he was kicked off the team in the beginning of January and the swatting incident happened in March. Nah, the DBP coach failed miserably in managing the situation. Not to mention he lost key parts of his line up with Joey, Little, and Webb leaving. Sounded like a total mess but I would trust the law enforcement family with a kid wrestling in the Ivy League next season as far as what happened…not to mention there is allegedly texts and/or video of some of the events which was turned over to SJR - who then decided not to admit Joey as a result. With that said, hopefully Joey learned some valuable life lessons and he’ll have his shot in AC to get redemption. The fact that coach defended Monticello and resigned/got fired over this leads me to believe there is some truth to this version but I’m just speaking about the kid and his actions , the dad that’s another story lol
it wasn’t that long ago the whole fiasco and crazy wrestling parent trying to get Bell fired from B.C. and arrested
He didn’t lose them ,they left after he was fired. So bc his dad is a cop and hes going to an Ivy League school that’s reason enough to believe him? And all this over him calling the kid a f**? That’s insane that parents even got involved in the first place. Nothing I’ve seen the kid accused of is anything serious. The dad and the swatting thing is different story but that came months after the kid was expelled. Do you understand what kids get away with in high school now? It’s madness ask any high school teacher and yet he gets expelled for this stuff? GTFOHNah, the DBP coach failed miserably in managing the situation. You are missing key issues which left DBP with little choice and the team was a mess inside and outside the locker room and the coach did not help the situation. When the school is investigating an incident and a teammate is threatening others to keep quiet (and there was allegedly an altercation) how do you think that’s going to play out when a cop’s son is a presence and respected wrestler in the locker room and school? I think you are out of touch with HS reality because there is zero tolerance = see kids like PJ Casale or Killian Colluccio. The fact that SJR decided not to admit a great wrestler/transfer like Joey says a lot. Regardless, the story is barely worth reading and good luck to Joey in AC.He didn’t lose them ,they left after he was fired.
