In the coming weeks UK will extend an offer to 5* Burger Boy EJ Montgomery from Marietta, Georgia. Montgomery currently stands at 6'11" and 215 pounds, although recruiting websites list him having smaller measurements in both areas. Montgomery is listed as a PF, but I've been told he's being pitched the possibility of splitting time at the 5 with Richards, assuming Richards returns. Montgomery doesn't see himself as a one and done type player and relishes the idea of being able to get a decent amount of PT as a freshman w/o having to be "the man." For his size Montgomery has good handles, decent court vision/passing capabilities for a player his size, and great off ball movement which can be attributed to a high basketball IQ. With that said, although coming in late the UK staff feels good about their chances and have actually been in contact with Montgomery longer than most think. Go Big Blue!!!

I know it was only from youtube vids but Montgomery looks pretty good. I like him to fit team needs with what he offers. That kid ain't nobody's chump.

That's great, I hope we get him. However, he plays smaller than 6'11 and he plays more like a 3 or a 4, but he's not a great shooter. He's left-handed, skinny, reminds me of Tayshaun Prince without the range. Not knocking him, but he's not a 5. I hope he comes to KY.

I heard Evan Daniels talking about him today, and he was very high on him.

He doesn't have to be a 5. He has to believe that he'll get PT at the 5.

The OP said he was going to split time with Richards at the 5, I disagree. I have seen him twice in person. Very talented, didn't fill up the stat sheet but you can see the potential. Hope the OP is legit and he right that we get him....and Wiseman!

I don't understand "in coming weeks". If we are going to offer, why wait?

Just a guess here. We know that assistants lay the ground work and identify targets. Then Cal closes the deal. Perhaps assistant coaches have targeted Montgomery, and when Cal can work his schedule to see the kid play in person, in coming weeks, the offer may happen.

If he didn’t want to be the man, then why Auburn? If Wiley has been eligible he probably would have been drafted this year. Herron would be the only other big time guy and I’m not sure about his draft prospects but seems odd.

You won't play the 5 at 215 lbs in the SEC.
Maybe. But at #212 you can rule all of college basketball from the 5-spot.

If he is athletic, quick and willing to play hard at all times, let's sign him up. He didn't get that high of a rating by being chop liver. Ranked higher than Richards was with a lot more basketball skill and acumen.

Don't get me wrong now, Davis is the best player to ever put on a Kentucky uniform. But realistically, how many 200-215 pound centers is gonna make an impact there freshmen year of college. You will have more Skal's than Davis..

If he's 215 now, he could easily be 225-230 by November.

You are wrong with your first statement..You are probably basing it on what AD is doing in the NBA. But Dan Issel was the best player ever to put on a UK uniform with Bill Spivey lurking in the shadows had his career not been cut short.

I'm really not sure that there is a "best player ever" at UK,the two you mention are certainly in a group of the "best ever" It is like Lays potato chips or a list of the greatest hits the the Beatles or Dylan or Rod Stewart or Merle Haggard there is not just one

My opinion is while Davis may not have the most pure stats and while at UK, he had the most talent to ever play for the Big blue.

This team reminds me of many of Merle's lyrics, you know like "Are we rollin' downhill like a snowball headed for hell"

or

"If we make it thru December"

I could sing'em Doc, along with Today I Started Loving You Again (Not toward you Doc.)....A UK tribute....
