• WR Chris Smith (Meridian, Miss.) is big and rangy and was one of the better wideouts on the field, as was WR Michael Bowman (Atlanta/Ridgeland).

• QB Tyler Russell (Meridian, Miss.), a Mississippi State commit, has some ability and very nice size, but, like most quarterbacks, he needs mechanical work and refinement.
Garrett didn't not show up. link.

PS., I can't figure out if Russell was at the Elite 11 event or the Nike event, or if there is even a difference.

as soon as Woody gets a hold of him. If you need any improvement at all, you won't get it in Starkville. Lucky for us, Carroll showed up very mature for his age. Omar, Furboy, Rutland, and Relf all just progressed so nicely under McCroomvey's tutelage, you know.

and showed out pretty well. If you haven't had a chance to see him or hear him give an interview, get yourself ready to be pleasantly surprised. This young man is very well spoken, comes across as mature, and, apparently, is sold out in his commitment. At Elite 11, he wore a black interlocking MS baseball hat and talked up the Chris Smith commit as part of "his" class that would make a difference at State. He really talked up Croom as well. It's obvious that these guys are responding to Croom. I disagree with whoever wrote that Russell needs to work on mechanics. That's BS.

"Meridian's Chris Smith, a Mississippi State commitment, finished second in the balloting for best WR at the Nike Camp behind Michael Bowman. At 6'1" 185 he is incredibly quick off the line and nearly impossible to jam. His routes were not quite as precise as Bowman's, but he is faster than Bowman and his hands are just as impressive. Smith is lightning fast. Mississippi State has stolen an absolute gem in Chris Smith."

If we can hold Smith and Russell, Croom will have blown to hell the suggestion that he is incapable of signing a QB or WR. That's 2 damn strong recruits right there.
