Did anyone catch the OSU-Ped State game?

I watched bits and pieces.

Saw a TD by the Peds, with a super fast, midget (he's actually 5'7" or 5'8") who outran everyone on the OSU team for a 93 yard TD. Tim Brownesque? We need those kinds of players.

Point: between, size, "skill set" and speed it's the later that matters most IMO.

This doesn't mean we don't take 3-4 star recruit who's not super fast (especially if he's playing QB). But we've got to uncover (nationwide) those kids who will go to a directional school or JC because they don't get the pub or recognition. This includes parts of NJ that may be lower down on the food chain: if the kid can run a 4.2. or 4.3 who the hell cares who's he's played agaisnt...very few people are going to be able to catch him (see article on Colorado's Taylor, who runs a 10.6 100m). https://bleacherreport.com/articles...n-taylor-found-an-improbable-path-to-colorado

We should be recruiting kids who can FLY. Coach them up for CB's / WR's, PR/ KO's... if we're ever going to compete I believe this is best opportunity.

What I noticed watching the OSU-PSU game was the speed and quickness of the players on both teams. Same thing watching Stanford-ND, and some other games.

RU-Indiana looked like a game in slow motion.

Recruit players who played in an up-tempo spread offense in HS and give them 3 years to learn the new RU offense and get in shape.

Regardless of location.

RU-IN were going backwards compared to OSU-PSU. The talent/speed/athleticism differential is astounding. It's almost like it's not the same sport.

I thought the same thing. They are on a whole different level. An example would be the great one handed catch by the big Penn State receiver. Can't imagine any of our WRs pulling that off.

I'm still amazed that last year we had a starting OLB who had a plus 5 second 40,and only weighed like 230lbs.

If you played in an up tempo offense in high school, why would you want to come to Rutgers to play in an old fashioned pro set offense?

On another note, the NFL is slowly moving away from the pro set as the talent coming out of college is producing more RPO type QBs. The QB in KC is the future of the league.

The most important recruiting strategy is to fire Ash and bring in a HC that is actually good at recruiting.

But I agree with the post above.....the Schiano model is best - focus on NJ and 2nd/3rd tier FL kids.

I get what you are saying, but kj Hamler was a 4 star IMG recruit. The way I see it, there are 3 ways to get out of the basement. (1) get a coach with an eye for talent and can build a culture (dantonio); (2) get a proven winner with baggage (leach and petrino); or (3) hire the hot name with the charisma to recruit. They tried to go the first route with ash but he does not seem to be up to the tall task.

I uhear folks saying this and definetly understand but in this day in age with us being in the B1G 3rd tier players shouldn't be an option anywhere and i'm only comfortable with "2nd tier" prospects that come from major recruiting grounds such as the southeast texas or cali

Seems clear to me that Ash's recruiting strategy is to offer players who have no other P5 offers in hopes they'll choose to play in the B1G instead of the Colonial Athletic Association.

Unfortunately for the Program this is the state of RU football.

The only recruitment strategy in know is the one that worked for us in the past: Florida 2nd and 3rd level players.

Scarlet Jerry
Yeah but those Florida players who Rutgers used to get are now staying home to play for USF, UCF, FIU, FAU.
