Coach Calipari has 11 scholarship players on his current roster. Willis, Hawkins, Mulder will graduate. Briscoe, Fox, Monk, Adebayo are gone after this year. If that much is true, no more than 4 current recruited players will be back next year, and none are guards. We can debate whether Gabriel or Humphries will be back, but they aren't guards. Green, Alexander, Washington, Richards are signed. With just their additions, Calipari can expect no more than 8 players next year, including 2 freshman guards. Depending on what happens with Gabriel and Humphries, I believe Calipari must sign 3-4 more players in the spring. Bamba and Vanderbilt are becoming more obvious, but Calipari must find 2 more guards. I believe Trae Young was out of the picture the moment Green signed with us. Diallo may still be a possibility, but becoming a longer shot. So 1 or more guards may have to come from reclassifications, juco, graduate transfers, international signings. The guard picture for next year is ripe for fresh news. Charles Matthews should have stayed here.

This class will be great ..Need Bamba and Knox...Crystal ball pick came in for UK on Diallo..A class of Green,Diallo,Alexander,Knox,Bamba,PJ and Richards ..wow..Duke could land a super class though
CB picks for Knox and Duval in for Duke.If they get Duval,Trent,Knox,Bamba,Carter lookout (Meyer thinks its 50-50 UK and Duke for Bamba)
Young looks to be KU or OU..

Cal will most assuredly find a way to get it done. But this is the most concerned I've been since he arrived (or at least since he made us all realize there's no NEED to be concerned).

However, I anticipate that next season could potentially be the worst team Cal has had since he arrived. That doesn't mean they'll be "bad," of course.

I'd expect a multiple year point guard added to the class for continuities sake.

That could be Alexander. His coach thinks he's a point, anyway.

I would like to see us snag a 5th year senior guard, but no idea who that might be.

House of Blue is saying Diallo will play college. College coaches think he'll play college.

SO, i think we look good there.

I think we'll be fine. We could use another guard, that's for sure. But remember 2012 we only had Teague and Lamb, basically. Miller, MKG, Jones, and Davis filled the rest of roster. Depending on the game we had Wiltjer and Vargus played. Other than that, we played with 1 PG and 2 SG.

But competition is good for development, so i think it's good to get another guard or two. I would love to get Young and Diallo to join.

I have been saying what the OP said for weeks now.
And yes, Cal should have given Mulder or Hawkins the option to redshirt, pointing out the much greater chance for PT next year compared to this year. I said that weeks ago too.
On top of the possibility of adding Diallo and/or Young, there is probably some 3* guard out there Cal will find. You have to like our chances in getting one of the better 3-yr graduate-transfer guards, given the PT opportunity. And then even though it is a longer-shot, there is the possibility of a re-classification (i.e. Murray).
It's early, but worst case we have a 2013 type team (that team wasn't bad until Noel got hurt), best case we add Diallo and maybe an impactful grad-transfer and are a contender again. And I expect Green to play 35-36 mpg next year.

Between Young, Diallo, Knox, & Vanderbilt I'm thinking (hoping) we get 2. I think we get Bamba either way.

Cal just recently said he plans to sign another 4 in the spring and realizes he could lose 7-9 players off this team. He's on it. Just relax everybody and let it play out. We won't know what we have until Cal is done putting it all together.

Does anybody know why we haven't tried to recruit M.J. Walker after we struck out with Lonnie Walker and Petty??? There really aren't many guard options left but I don't think we have even "kicked the tires" on him.

I agree with this.

I think we get one guard, likely Diallo since I tend to think that it was Young or Green and getting Green means no Young.

I can deal with just getting Diallo and Bamba.

If Green could pull off the hat trick and pull in all three of the guys he said he would go after hard (Bamba, Knox, and Diallo) then we could be the favorite with three of the top ten recruits in the nation coming in on top of what we already have.

I thought I heard Duval was a long shot to qualify. Is that true? Also, I'd guess Briscoe will return.

Any chance cal under-recruits at guard just so brad can play? I'll hang up and listen

Probably so. Hopefully we get into the NIT tournament, and just win the whole damn thing. The key is just getting there. If we make it, Brad will deliver. I'd start B-Rad and Jonny David in the backcourt. Give them some nickname like white boy academy, and watch them go to work. ESPN's next 30 for 30.

I don't see any way Briscoe returns after the way he's started the year. He has drastically improved his game in just about every area.

I still think we get Young. Cal rarely misses on his first offer in a class. Young was his first choice in the backcourt in this class and they have a great relationship. Cal didn't kick all that to the curb when he saw he could get Green. I think he had Young slow play it to get Green and he'll commit in January or February. All these recruits have to do is watch our team play. All 3 of Briscoe, Fox, and Monk may play the point in the NBA, for sure Fox and Briscoe. Why not shoulder the load with another PG and win, ALOT!

There's also the possibility of a guard blowing up his senior year like Bledsoe did. Who's in better position than Cal and UK to snatch up someone late like that?

Unless you are referring to a PG, then Petty was the first offered scholly and he passed.

I was thinking about Matthews also. He would have logged some minutes this year( probably Mulders) and would have been a great asset next year. I was really sad to see him go. Great athlete and would have been "loggins like" next year. On another note, he will also be denied a championship ring. We will win it all this year with our guard play.

I love how people are worried about Diallo's shooting but wished that we still had Matthews.

One thing that we don't need to worry about is recruiting. There was all kinds of hand wringing over point guard for last year and Cal gets Green. Now we are worrying about a shooter, it will take care of itself.

I find worries like this silly. Cal has landed a top 1 or 2 class EVERY year he has been at UK. We have the #1 recruiting class after the Fall signing period. What more do you want at this point in the season? RELAX - he has delivered and will continue to deliver. Will we have teams like 2014-2015 and this years team each year...no...but we will have plenty of talent and are fortunate to have a coach that can reload the cupboards each and every year.

We will land atleast 2 more recruits - that will be a minimum of a 6 man recruiting class - most schools would be ecstatic - especially when 5 of those 6 are 5* players.

I love the recruiting news as much as anyone and follow all of it but at the end of the day to say you are more worried now than you have ever been when we have the top Fall recruiting class in the country is laughable.

Cal is the best or 2nd best recruiter (depends on how you feel about Coach K)...so recruiting usually works out for UK.

But next year has all signs of being a decent but not a great team as Cal tends to have the every other year is an elite team and every other year we sort of play to a 4 seed type of season (9-10 losses). All signs point to one of those type of seasons next year.

Since we don't play often, our recruiting battles are where most of the action is. For next year, I think Duke has the inside track to having the best class, using 247's calculator: Duke is @ 70.75 with Duval and Knox, and UK is just behind @ 70.66 with Diallo and Bamba. Either of those go elsewhere (quite possible) and just aren't enough top players left for UK to make up the difference.

One thing I've noticed is that Duke seems to recruit for the best player @ each position, so that quite often you could almost make a full team just from those players, while UK seems to stockpile talent even if it's at similar positions. Curious if that's true or just my perception.

Good points. I am also of the opinion that we will also get Young. I have never see Diallo play so know very little about him. Some say he can't shoot other says he can. But young can shoot from what little I have seem of him. So can Cal convince Young to come and play at UK as a SG ?

I think several of us are worried because we need four guards for the team next year and right now we project to have two. Additionally almost all of the guards in the top 150 have signed. The only two we seem to be actively recruiting one allegedly prefers to go to the NBA and skip college and the other is miffed we signed another PG in the class. It's the scarcity of available guards that is troubling not Cal's recruiting ability.

No, that isn't accurate. Most of UK's recruiting classes are a mix of PG's, Wings, and Bigs.
