Recruiting at the root

Count me in as concerned about Pike's recruiting. I think he is a great coach, and representative of the university. I do not think he should be fired. That being said, we seriously lack consistent offensive players. We have little offensive contribution from the bench. The closest thing we have to a consistent threat is Ron. We need more players who can shoot and score.

Then how did we beat Wisconsin, MSU, Ohio State, Purdue, and Illinois? The same players played in those games.
The team over achieved in those games which were at home except for Wisconsin. The inconsistent performances started with the out of conference games and continued against bottom tier Big Ten teams. The NET ranking tells the story why Rutgers still has to win games for a NCAA bid.

You guys are potatoes that think he can't recruit. Cliff was a massive win. Paul is a kid that usually plays for Notre Dame. Another massive recruiting battle. Mathis was a huge win at the time too. Then he develops kids. We are Rutgers, not sure what some of you are expecting. He's the best basketball coach we have arguably ever had.
I’m not sure why everyone has a problem with this. It’s not about the guys he recruited to get us here…it’s every single recruit AFTER Cliff. Two years of basically nothing.

He recruited better when we sucked. Success should be a springboard to better recruits and ours has gone south.

I'm not sure how you arrive at this mindless point.....which recruiting "miss" was going to be a replacement for the players playing right now??

The team can only play 5 players at a time on the court. If you're asking for a better starter than what we have, AND that player is going to have the game experience and not have a drop-off from the starters, then I'd love to know what players you're referring to.

What has happened is the players who built the product are now upperclassmen and the underclassmen who are solid players or recruits, are not capable or as experienced as starters now. This happens at every winning program.

It is beyond bizarre that the program that has not had a winning season in 13 straight seasons, has not only a winning season in 2019-20, but has a NCAA caliber season....

lol.. it’s not about this season. None of them…although to be perfectly honest, I did expect Jones to be in the rotation as per all the hype….but he is another story.

Do you really think Reiber, Palmquist, Mag, Miller, Woolfolk and Sampson are going to someday be a formidable combination in B1G games?…because that, along with Jones, is what I am referring to. Maybe he can bring in another Agee to help too.

I guess you are ok with our our last two recruiting classes being 13th and 12th in the B1G? good for you…set the bar low

I don’t understand the criticism of recruiting for next season when the portal movements haven’t begun yet. One good portal player to replace Ron will help tremendously. Simpson and Woolfolk replace Geo and Ralph. Everyone else comes back with more experience.

I think most realistic fans understand this is the last hurrah for a while , save for finding a Keith Hughes AND earl duncan in the portal.
That’s why it’s so important to get our name called selection Sunday this year.
We need Caleb back in addition to Paul and Cliff. If that happens we’ll be fine. Geo’s position will be easy to place in the portal. It always is. That wasn’t what we were looking for last year.

RHJ will be more difficult to replace. We probably won’t get someone as good as him, but then, our other guys will hopefully develop and contribute more to make up for the drop off.

I don’t see us being awful next year if the core guys return though.

We will be very shaky in the absence of getting two strong portal players who can score.

We have a great coach. He’s never going to recruit top classes. Be okay with that haters because he’s going to be our coach for a very long time.

So most schools in the b10 recruited better than us over the last few years, Yet we finished in 5th, 6th and no worse than 9th this year. So clearly you need more than just recruiting.

You could’ve lol’d about Geo too when he committed.
You're not wrong but it isn't necessarily the same. Geo came in when the program had little expectations. Geo is also a special circumstance -- we hit the lottery.. He's literally the most important player to come through Rutgers in a very long time. Odds are Simpson is more likely to be glued to the bench next yr vs being able to light up Madison Square Garden - like Geo did as a freshman. Jus bein realistic

Nah., I went to Rutgers and grew up next to Seton Hall in the Ivy Hill Apartments. Actually the philanthropic and business communities of Santa Fe embrace me. I have access to the mayor 24/7 and every key philanthropic and business entity in Santa Fe and I'm on numerous boards. So you Pike-eez I'm sorry that my jersey candid speaking on this board has upset you clowns but I'm extremely well respected both personally and business-wise where I've called home for the last 26 years.
Wow, my opinion of you has completely changed now that we know you have access to a mayor 24/7.

Simpson looks better than his rating to me. I'm excited to see him next year.

Woolfolk might be able to give some solid minutes off the bench but also may bring in another big as well

Jones could also be an answer next year. It shouldn't shock anyone if he is in the rotation. Geo and Ron open up a lot of shots and a need for scoring... If he stays obviously

Would like to see us sprinkle in some 4 stars as well though not only underrecruited gems

We don't know if or who we get out of the portal or juco or HS.... so still TBD on what next year's roster thoughts are. We have some nice pieces if Pike can make the right moves here
