Recruiting advantages this year

We all know recruiting is a tough business in the SEC. Looking at last week (How quickly time passes) I see a hopeful beginning in recruiting advantage for the Bulldogs.

1 - We showed potential recruits an exciting offensive scheme they could be a part of.
2 - We showed them an offense that moves the ball against big opponents.
3 - We showed on the field results of good coaching.
4 - We demonstrated the results of aggressive effort on both offense and defense.

There is no way to adequately say how big the LSU victory was for the program. Perhaps players who were not considering MSU as a home (or even watching us play) heard about our win and decided to take a look and see what we do this week. If we actually are the team that went to BR and continue playing with the intensity we showed, then Arkansas was a real gift as our #2 game. It is possible the BR team will make a real statement against the hogs. Two weeks of play like we saw in Saturday's game will buy us a lot if interest in recruiting. I am doing all I can to not look past this Saturday, but After the Hogs, we have KY, which gives us a real shot at 3-0.

Every player wants to be part of a winning team. The way things are going at the moment, Coach Leach has a chance to make recruiting a lot easier. He has a lot of what he needs in place to have some real success at MSU. The next few weeks could make a difference for years to come.

Go Dawgs!

It's early and we could drop a couple of clunkers this year. Who knows?

But I think our challenges are always going to be the same: yes, this is an attractive place for recruits - this is a sexy offense and we have an impressive history of putting defensive stars into the NFL. But we still have to recruit against the crooks up north and have to deal with Bama and LSU poaching kids.

It's also going to be interesting to see if Leach can keep his staff together. Those guys seem pretty loyal and followed him from Wazzu, but if Arnett works miracles with this defense, or Junior Spurrier demonstrates that he's a savant on the SEC stage, schools are going to be trying to poach them.

This years recruiting cycle is coming to a close but this will help keep what we have and may get some leaners our way back.

Next year and beyond!!!! These things build.

I think our best recruiting for highly rated offensive players is going to be in the transfer portal. We should clean up on guys getting late round draft grades that are looking for new surroundings.

Olemiss will ***** their daughters and wives (maybe their mothers) in an effort to keep wr’s away from us. Top tier wr’s from MS are about to get paid.

Somebody start the countdown to when Saban tries to hire away at least 1 of Leach's guys.

I think the biggest question in the near term is if we can get back in the game with Smith, Brevard, or Calloway on the WR front for 2021. It’s a very down year for MS kids outside of the WR position, but if we could somehow flip one of those 3 it would be nice.

Agree we need to make hay now. Calloway at a minimum because we need another safety. I would imagine that WR spot is going to Johnson from Laurel if we can't get Smith, which is probably still a long shot, but if it was ever going to happen, that result Saturday would be the thing to do it.

I will add Justin Walley and Ty Cooper to this too.

Brevard to me is the most confusing. I don’t know if there is a Moorhead connection or what, but I’d have to imagine he’s going to get some late pressure to stay in state even if he ends up at OM or something.

Rosebowl says he's not really a priority for us or Ole Miss, if that means anything. Probably a little bias in there.

But yeah I expect Brevard, Altmeyer and Harmon to all ultimately sign with Ole Miss.

I would love to hear what attributes coach Leach places the most value on when he evaluates QB and WR prospects. I have a hunch it's a delightful departure from the generic evaluations most coaches use .
