I paid attention VERY much early on. Russia pounded them early on and the World’s reaction held them back from using the force they were capable of to take them to heel quickly. Make NO mistake, Russia was the 2nd most powerful military when this all started. It is just simply extremely difficult to win the war in a way to keep in tact what they actually were going after in Ukraine, mind you they weren’t just trying to beat them they wanted to TAKE large parts of it over.

Even we were never truly able to take over a country. Korea sucked. Vietnam was a disaster and EVERYTHING in the Middle East has backfired on us at some point.

Smashing a country into oblivion is vastly different than trying to take permanent control…
You are delusional.

If the US were to fight a total war in any of those places, the end would be quick. Russia most certainly is and they are 4.5 years into it, hopelessly bogged down while churning thru "soldiers", material and getting their hat handed to them on the homefront.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

Why would those European countries NOT want to create an organization to DEFEND themselves from Russia? Using the same logic, why is there no North American (or any in the World) organization to defend against the US.

Are you so obtuse to not realize what Russia's intentions are? The good news for everyone except bordering countries is that Russia's military/economy are pathetic as evidenced by their results in Ukraine. If not for them possessing the bomb, they'd be a third rate power.

Nyet on your version of Russia
I never said it was out of the interest of the other counties to want to join NATO. I explained from Russia's position why that would be unacceptable for them. Russia's intentions, ostensibly, are to have a defensible border and a reasonable sphere of influence over the Baltics and East Europe. Now your standard of reasonable might be different from theirs but nothing I said is incorrect.

And I'm assuming you still think we are the most powerful, most terrifying military in the world after a staggering loss on every single point of our stated goals against Iran? Or is your position more nuanced than I'm expecting?

Why should Russia have a "reasonable" sphere of influence over sovereign countries who seek independence? As you say, perhaps Russia seeks this, but no one else does

Yes we are. I am firmly against the Iran "War". Our boy got snookered into it. However, if the US were to conduct the war as Russia does against the Ukraine, there would be a quick end. We have only deployed air power vs military targets. If we targeted energy, transportation, utilities and the like, Iran would be in the Stone Age. Doing so would create a massive humanitarian issue once the regime fell. The costs of which would be astronomical.

Yes, the US should not be the Worlds policeman. However, don't think for a second any country is plotting an attack to our soil. They seek other ways to weaken us.

Speaking of Borge he lost in UTB to Dean Anderson at Elite 8 . Anderson with 2 escapes and Borge with a reversal. Dean scored 1st and he had choice in UTB and he went took bottom and escaped for the win . It was a good match
I was surprised when Borge didn’t escape at the first overtime. Good match, I think both wrestlers were pretty reserved the first periods. Hopefully he gets a rematch at Super 32 (if they both go).

Any recruits that we should’ve kept an eye on at Elite 8 duals? That we have a legit shot at? @Corby2

To be clear, I was NOT directly comparing Russia's army to the US. You most definitely will NOT like this analogy, but comparing them to ANYONE is basically the same as comparing Iowa wrestling to PSU, with Iowa being Russian and PSU the US. They ARE that far apart. Still, Russia is #2, just like Iowa has been(until DT took over OkState anyway).....

My point was simply that it is vastly different to just be trying to mash another country to dust, vs. trying to "take it over" or parts of it anyway, without there being nothing left to take over. Make no mistake, Russia absolutely had the power and STILL does to turn Ukraine to RUBBLE without even using Nukes. The ENTIRE reason Russia invaded is for specific resources they have ALSO had major contention with the Ukraine controlling going all the way back to the USSR dissolving.

Mind you, I am by no means a Russian apologist. I simply DO NOT think Ukraine is ANY better and don't care for them either. I just KNOW that it most certainly isn't as simple as Russia=Bad and Ukraine=Good. And your attack on the strength of the Russian military is akin to attacking Iowa wrestling if your bar is simply the US military(PSU wrestling)....

With all due respect, MSU, can you put a sock in it? No one who's been on this board for more than a month doubts your ability to discuss at length about nearly anything. At least start a new thread about this somewhere.

I have gunked up this thread enough with geopolitics and I'll concede the rest of my time. Thanks guys, you make work more fun. Go hawks
Some poor soul started a new thread to revive the recruiting Convo but it is getting gunked up about 10 posts in. If you wanted to do a Russia opinion peice there, you could probably finish it off. It gets harder to take the train off the track when season starts so take advantage now.

LOL. You do realize that there are WAYYYYY longer posts by SEVERAL others in this thread about that topic, correct? My ONLY argument here was simply about calling Russia's military a joke when they are pretty much the TOP of everyone other than US....

But, hey, I take it as a badge of honor that my posting in ANY form of debate draws this type of reaction! Peace and prosperity to you and yours...

We can even take Willie back if they send us a really good wrestler. If not, Willie can report from Siberia for the next 5-10 years, with time off for good behavior. ;)
Rumor is that Russia is asking that we take Willie back, and if we do, they will sweeten the pot with a curling player to be named later. I was hoping they would give us an Anna Kournakova-type to take him back. I guess Willie is on the depreciation side of life.

Is Borge part of NATO forces? If not, not sure what this is doing in this thread.
Borge is a town in Northern Norway that was occupied by the Germans starting in 1940. It is in a strategically important location, which is why the British and Norwegian forces conducted commando raids to wrest it from Nazi control. The area is arguably more strategically important than it has been in decades.

Although Borge is not in itself a military base, NATO explicitly describes this area in the Arctic as a gateway to the North Atlantic and says the High North has become increasingly important to collective security, particularly because of Russian military activity.

Hope this helps keep the discussion on track. 👊

I’m telling you, he’s in Russia training the local militias. The war is boiling over into the mother country and Willie and his boys are covertly prepping the locals.

They'd need to beg. Maybe Anna Kournakova-type twins PLUS Abdul Rashid Saduaev might be enough. Once we get him back, we're probably stuck with him, so ask BIG.
