Basketball powerhouse Putnam Science Academy (Conn.) is reportedly shutting down due to financial crisis following recent reports.
Calling it a "prep school" might be a stretch. One hundred twenty students. Seems that some major donors (sneaker companies?) have pulled the plug. Have always wondered where the funding originates in schools like these: $68,000 cost for the 90% of student body listed as residents; highly paid coaches who, apparently, don't also "teach"; school is a defunct Catholic girls high school; gym seating consists of one row of folding chairs set between baselines and walls. Recent rumblings of "fraud investigations" and staff not being paid. Twenty years ago places like this were called storefont basketball factories.
