It is always difficult to get the truth about Husker football. After this game it is clear we have not been given an accurate picture. HuskerOnline is, by design, full of overly optimistic puff pieces, where every recruit loves us and every player on the team is destined for greatness. Then there is the Husker Board, not so much filled with useful information as it is full of vitriol and blind adoration.

Does anyone have a recommendation on where you can get real talk about the program? Listening to Frost himself without the "what this means..." commentary by HO writers may be the answer, but wondering if there are other places to look.

I would suggest Tennessee or Ole Miss... then the puff pieces and optimism on this board will no longer exasperate you.

When it comes to fandom I don’t think what you’re looking for exists. There are radicals at both ends of the spectrum.

If you take anything on the internet at face value, you need to rethink that choice. Of course, 98% of America thinks CNN or Fox are actual news sources, so.....

Pretty hard to find "blind adoration" on this board today, but if you say it is here, I'll look some more. The way I see it is most of the posters here are treating the game as a 14-point loss, not a 14-point win. Haven't seen much about the fire the D had today, better special teams, +2 in turnovers, Robinson's play, Lee Jr's play, etc. Mostly what I see is we are going to get murdered next week.

The greatest thing about football is the invention of the scoring system and human perception. Yes, it was a 14 point win, but in reality it was a 5-3 win. I'm not a big futbal fan, but how big of a blowout is that on a "soccer" basis.

I took all the talk from the B1G Bus Tour about Nebraska with a grain of salt, especially earlier in the week when Howard Griffith and Duh-Nardo were saying that Nebraska is the favorite in the West based upon Adrian and what they saw and who they talked to while in Lincoln.

Nebraska won in a very ugly fashion today, but at least they won, so credit due. But there were major glaring trouble spots in all three phases today, and that is a trend left over from last year, especially early last year, and repeated against USA. This team is still a work in progress, but they can get better just like last season, but getting better in the next few weeks is a must, a big must before the conference games start.

I look at Frost's former team UCF, they pounded a similar type team (Florida A&M) the other night with no difficulty at all. Could Nebraska have beaten them the same way? It's year two for their coach and Heupel seems to have them in high gear right off the bat, with supposedly lesser talent than what Nebraska has. I'm not looking for a UCF debate, just comparing them with similarities and looking into why Nebraska is still struggling in the manner in which they do while UCF cruises against a like opponent.

An ugly first game victory can be helpful in working on the mishaps and making the proper fixes, something I hope Nebraska does this week, but I am skeptical to the point that I don't see a victory coming next Saturday, and I hope like hell I'm wrong.

Good thread topic, OP, I wish I had the perfect solution. I find Damon Benning to be pretty even keeled. He says a LOT because he's got SO much time to fill on air....but, if you can pick out his "real talk" moments, he's gives a pretty honest and fair analysis.

In the end, any media content consumed comes down to a listeners own intelligence and ******** meter. Unfortunately, most Americans aren't equipped properly with much of either.

We didn’t play well, offense was anemic, offensive line struggled, Frost needs to get the fellas better prepared... is that what you are looking for? Or doom and gloom doom and gloom another 5-7 year. Get over yourself

Not your bud. So let's get that clear. What do you want fans to say oline is bad and Martinez looks slower than last year. Local media is drinking the frost coolaid hard so naturally the fans by in. Wait till a loss happens then fire the whole staff.

Get over myself? I said before on this board 4-8 to 8-4 would be great for year two. A win is a win let's see how it goes next week and the next week. Game is over got the W on to the next one far as I am concerned.

People have such thin skin. I'm just asking where I can get a more honest take on the team. Those of you who take offense to this wish puts WAY too much value on being a pure, unwavering fan.

(Incidentally, being honest about our team is much better for it and for the fan base. Consuming stories about how much recruits all love us, Adrian is Heisman bound, and the CFP is a real probability only leads to bitterness when reality sets in.)

Fans of teams don't look for the reasons why their team will lose...they look for reason why their team will win.

If you want to hear why NU sucks...go to the Iowa boards or the Wisconsin boards.

Unless you have access to practice or if you know a coach or a player, what you mentioned are the only options we have.

What I see is an ugly win considering the Jaguars were hot garbage last year and in a lower tier conference to boot.

But, if Nebraska wins by 14 pts every week I'm not gonna complain.

We won't know for sure what this game meant until we watch some more games both for USA and for us. USA is in their 2nd year under a new coach and systems and they've got some players. IMO their QB outplayed AM by quite a bit. JMHO.

Honesty does not mean, "tell me how they suck." It is also not, "everything is wonderful!" I am looking for something in between.

Not everyone wants the truth, such as you, and that's fine I guess. But some of us do.

It's not hard to find a few other Nebraska boards. This just happened to be the one I ended up on. You're not going to find one that isn't a mix of all viewpoints. As for the "truth", that's subjective. Sounds like you just want a group where you don't have to listen to anything you disagree with.

Nebraska isn’t relevant enough nationally to have someone dedicate much unbiased journalistic effort.

The market is set up for Nebraska fans to do the reporting (e.g. Rivals,247 etc) so it is usually skewed. There can be a lot of honest critique mixed into it all, but overall it’s usually tilted towards the optimistic take.

Sometimes HailVarsity has some deeper statistical analysis articles, but some of those go a little too far.

There's a been a few knowledgeable guys out there (former players) who have been short selling the Huskers predicting an 8 win season as most likely the best case. I had kind of written them off as guys who didn't want too much pressure on Frost. NOW I'm thinking that after they've watched practice they knew how much time it's going to take to get the young guys playing at a high level.

I know the truth...they are a slightly above average team.

Also, it is really hard to right objective about 1. The team you are covering for a profit and 2. a team that you have not seen play anyone else.

Shoot, Nick Saban tells everyone how crappy his team is all the time...Think he is being honest?

Take what the talking heads say with a grain of salt. Go to YouTube and listen to what the coaches are saying...

Unfortunately what the talking heads are saying is what the coaches and players are saying, almost word for word.

In defense of Frost, he did say he was very unhappy with the practices on Tuesday and Wednesday and was afraid it would carry over to the game. This was on Friday I believe.

I think the OP has a point. Surely, there has to be something between "We suck!" and "You must not be a real fan. Please off yourself." on the fandom spectrum.

I mean, AM was pretty much meh all day. Frost goes for 4th and 4 early in the game at mid-field. Sounds like stuff we made fun of Oregon for when they kept doing that stupid **** and lost to NU. Farinok looked like he was a true freshman and not dominant like I thought he would be.

Predictions were that NU would win the West. AM was a Heisman candidate. Frost had gotten everyone on the same page. And then yesterday happened. What was supposed to be a "statement" game. Was like fingernails on a chalkboard. Hard to watch. Does that make me less of a fan? Am I too much of a homer?
