This is what WVU fans (and some Marshall fans) have seen coming for some time.
Marshall's program was elevated in the eyes of its fans (and one no-name writer from CBS) by squeaking past the worst teams in all of football for several seasons... while only losing to a few of them.
Many Marshall fans handled this faux success with a Charles Manson-esque grace... declaring themselves the "State flagship" or the "darlings of the G5" or the "Notre Dame of the G5"... meanwhile mocking WVU, who was struggling with the upgrade in league competition... but were playing actual football teams. A seven win season for Marshall with WVU's schedule would have been the greatest achievement in the history of Marshall athletics.
Well your chickens have come home to roost. It couldn't be more obvious that Marshall's program is garbage, and that the banner "accomplishments" from the last few years are hanging from rafters made of turds.
On the plus side... nobody in the college football world will notice that Marshall is 1-4... because nobody cared when Marshall was winning 10 games against teams that most folks didn't know existed.
