He was actually a fairly successful Memphis business man. I think he was even on an episode of American Pickers on the THC if I'm not mistaken. Very colorful character for sure. A true Memphis icon for sure.

Our local channels on the cable in Pontotoc when I was a kid (70's & early 80's) were Tupelo, Columbus, & Memphis. I remember this dude running for mayor of Memphis in every election since the mid 70's. He was a strange dude.

All Hail to Prince Mongo! All hail!!! The true King of Memphis!! Some say he was 89 some say 79. I say he was truly 333. So what was a 333 year old Zambodian native doing up on a ladder trimming the trees in his yard? Begs to question I suppose! Been a fixture since I moved to Memphis in 1981. Can promise you one thing......he'd been a better mayor instead of anyone since Dick Hackett who Willie Herenton beat by 172 votes. That was the day of the beginning decline of Memphis and a long line of totally inept liberal Mayors.

Sad day. I had a Mongo for Mayor poster with a personalized note on it with some far out words of wisdom about rats and chickens dancing in the streets. After getting married, that poster mysteriously disappeared during a move. I was legit upset about it.
I feel like a fun part of Memphis died today.

Yep. His bar had $5 beer bust Wednesday and Sunday when I was in high school. $5 cover they hand you a plastic cup. Sit at the bar and get blitzed.
