Steve reported last night and confirmed again today there are “currently conversations being had between Cohen and Napier’s reps”. It’s been reported Napier wants to coach the bowl game Monday without any distractions. In my opinion, this is why the report came out last night that he “declined opportunity to join the Bulldogs”

Steve had a good idea of Moorhead’s firing in the days leading up to it, and all he could report was “there are conversations being had regarding Moorhead’s future.”

I feel Napier is basically a done deal but has made Cohen promise not to leak to media before Monday, and Steve knows this too. I hope I’m right, and Judge, Chizik, etc. are just smokescreens.

Where is Steve reporting this, Gene's page?

That's exactly what a guy with a heart condition needs... to be head football coach at Mississippi State.

Yeah he reported this afternoon on 247 there are still talks ongoing. At this point, what the hell could they be talking about if it’s not serious discussion about Napier & his staff at MSU?

Cool thanks for the info. I don't have Gene's page. But yeah I think there is is something going on for sure.

Agreed. Two thoughts that keep going through my head....

1. You don’t turn down $4M/yr to coach in the SEC in order to coach in the Sun Belt for $1.2. You just don’t, and as quickly as his name’s gotten hot, it could fall off the earth next season if his team takes a step back

2. There may be some other jobs out there that he’d prefer, and I get that if true, but they’d all require a very specific series of events to occur in a short period of time, and that’s one hell of a gamble

Long story short, it’s completely possible that Napier was a no as of yesterday afternoon, but either common sense or his wife kick in at some point, and I’d bet on him being named head coach by mid-week

As far as Napier goes, I'm sure the timing with his bowl game is the main issue. I see no point in chasing up this tree anymore until that game is over. When Cohen made his remarks about listening to rumors, he knew he had 5 full days of us going nuts and him not being able to talk about it.

I’m hoping be gauged some interest before pulling the trigger on Morehead. He may have his guy wrapped up already.

This. He learned to be more tight-lipped after the baseball search. He gauged interest during Mullen's flirtations & made a decisive hire that EVERY ONE thought was a good hire at the time. I'm positive he's aware of the Stans to Rick Ray debacle as well.

I still think IB is a smart guy & can learn from his, & others', mistakes. Gameday operations on the other hand...

He also said the coach would have to be passionate about MSU..is that Napier?
