Its an interesting read. Say what you want about Clemson, in general their donor base has higher expectations that ours and wont just take a 41 point loss.

CEO and X's and O's might be too much for a "coach" to handle.
As mentioned in the Clemson Insider piece, a coach probably will not be willing to be subordinate to a CEO and I don't blame them. Things, they are a changing!

This landscape is not why the vast majority got into coaching; the guy at Indiana seems to be an exception, maybe Saban. People who haven't experienced it have chortled and sniggled when Ive said this before but there are life lessons from a good coach and football program that stick with you for life; I don't sense that as compatible with or doable in the CEO approach.

People who haven't experienced it have chortled and sniggled when Ive said this before but there are life lessons from a good coach and football program that stick with you for life; I don't sense that as compatible with or doable in the CEO approach.

I'm sure an increasing number of kids coming to play college football now have zero interest in a life lesson.

It's a demotion for any coach. Bring in a GM and the head coach is not in charge of the football program any longer.

Dabo (and myself to a large degree) still believes in evaluating and recruiting HS players, bringing them into the system and developing them over a few years until they are stars in their junior and senior seasons and building strong depth. Unfortunately, NIL and, to a greater degree, the portal have made that philosophy very difficult to implement in real life. Second year players who are going to be great in the future get impatient for quality playing time and transfer. Players get messages that another team will pay them much more money if they go there. There are no real rules anymore.

Like 18, I applaud Dabo for his stance and his vision of what college football should be. Unfortunately for Dabo, that vision doesn't look like it is going to lead to the success the spoiled Clemson faithful are going to demand.

If Clemson hires a GM, Dabo could throw up his hands and walk away, or, he could shrug and say "OK, I'll hang around making $11 million a year and let your whiz bang GM catch all the heat".

I don't think it was ever an option. The Bama people I know never showed any interest in Dabo. They talked about trying to get Kirby from UGA.

That is amazing. Its like they couldn't buy good recruits, so they had to settle. Then they spend a bunch of money on keeping those recruits that no one wanted.

They do have some leftovers of the highly rated classes. Maybe they are spending all their money on those few to keep them there.

It's just the Jimmys and Joes. The OL is pretty bad. The skill players are nothing great. It does suck what CFB has come to. But that's the game now and if you don't play it you will most likely lose it. Let's not pretend there were always teams at a recruiting disadvantage.

Not many ever have; they get it from osmosis. Point is that the historical structure of high school and college football programs are based on those lessons to effectively function as a unit; I think most head coaches at that level anyway are more drawn to being leaders than they are to being a boss.

NIL was the worst thing to ever happen to Clemson, Auburn and FSU football. All three lost their recruiting advantage when other teams could pay players.

We both know there ain't no "theory" to it. - UNC had the momentum, was effectively about to score, and someone @ Clemson pulled the plug on that immediately....

Which got me thinking, there ought to be at least an addendum to the "lightning strike within 8 miles of the stadium" rule.... ok, fine. I get it, BUT, if a team is inside the 20 they should let it play out until there is either a turnover on downs, a field goal, or a TD and the PAT attempt. - You could even forgo the PAT attempt until play resumes.

OR... make it a rule that the refs / booth / whomever / must call a brief "official timeout" to at the very least inform the crowd and both teams that "lighting has been detected inside 16 miles of the stadium and is headed this way..." - Sort of like a sideline warning. That way, a team can at least try to hurry up and score if they clearly have the momentum. - That seems much more fair to me than just abruptly stopping play with no warning.

In five years college football will have the same model as the NFL to include number of roster players where all get paid not just a few.
