How long do you think he would hold up back there? He didn't make it through the spring. How many 185 lb backs do you see in the B1G? Washington was about that size and he didn't hold up. Sure they like to use guys like that shifting from the backfield to the slot or in motion. No doubt he is a premium athlete but his skill set is operating in space where he can take on LB's on his own terms.
Another stupid take about RB/QB weight. How much you think Ameer or Rex weighed? Follow-up question, what's the correct weight at which ankles cannot be sprained?

Uh...Washington made it...so you're supporting my point.
Sorry, I’m missing something here.

Washington came late and contributed a lot last year. If Mills makes it, why can’t he do the same thing?

The way I read your previous post, I thought you were saying he would be a bust because he wouldn’t pick up the playbook or work hard enough to fit in. Maybe I misunderstood.

Ameer weighed 195. All I could find on Rex is that he was 215. Rex didn't make it through his senior season. I thought someone would bring up Barry Sanders. Yes, there are always exceptions to the standard. Why isn't Washington your poster child? He was hurt often last year. If size doesn't matter than just have all 165 lb running backs or QB's? So why do coaches want to put weight on these kids and make them stronger? Because they take a lot of punishment.. Have you ever played FB and realize how hard these guys get hit and how often?

Mo got here late and wasn't able to take advantage of summer conditioning. Running backs should play at weights appropriate for their frame. Frost's offense put a premium on speed and acceleration, so guys will play a little lighter than they would in another offense. Ozigbo dropped some pounds, but really just shed some some bad weight and added to good weight. He wasn't that much lighter but was a hell of a lot faster. Some guys are more injury prone regardless of their size.

May have replied to the wrong message. Sorry if true.

My response:
"If true, he won’t likely be able to pick up the playbook...or be able to work hard enough to fit in. Work ethic and aptitude are transferable qualities."

I was just pointing out that if someone can't qualify, they may not have the tools (work ethic and aptitude) to make it even if they did manage to get in.

Barry Sanders was short but not a small back. He fluctuated between 205 and 215.

Because the injuries aren't weight-related. That's why it's stupid. These aren't shattered collar bones from getting trucked or busted tailbones from getting thrown on their ***.

You want RBs at a certain weight so they can break tackles. Throwing 25 lbs on a guy doesn't give him magical, sprain-proof ankles.

Washington was a knee sprain from a nasty shot right on that knee. Rex had ankle sprains a couple of seasons. Ameer had nagging ankle sprains as well. Mazour has been hurt throughout few weeks of practices for spring ball with a week off in the middle. Is that the *pounding of the Big 10 regular season*? 15 practices stretched over a month? Wandale Robinson's hamstring too skinny to not get strained?

I'd love to hear what exactly the injuries are that the meatballs on this board think become impossible between the 5 lb journey from 185 to 190. Please also explain the guys who blow a knee in non-contact drills and how that's evidence of not being able to "take the pounding."

This weight thing is a bit of a red herring. Kids can come in a bit on the light side and will gain some weight simply from the strength and conditioning process. Mo was listed at 190 last year and that listing may have been a bit generous. He's probably a lot stronger on a per pound basis than we was last year. Gaining weight is a position by position decision and is done on an individual basis. The last thing Frost wants is skill players that are slower because they've put on lbs.
