Raymond- the burst —- wow

Dremel- gotta get him some targets
He will get his. The fact that we have many weapons now is huge. Teams are going to now have to game plan against multiple WRs, a TE, and RBs our of the backfield. Still need to see us go vertical though.

But teams are going to have to use a safety on our TEs which will open the vertical game.

AK had all night to pass short.
The key for me was how good the receivers were

Melton and Cruickshank were hard for defenses to handle at the same time.
It wasn't just catching ability but the way they stretched the field.
They were make nice scoring catches first half of the season and then none for second half.
The reason was Cruickshank getting hurt - Melton never scored another TD - easier for defense.
RU's current guys bring back that stress that was missing last year

The receivers were pretty weak aside from occasional flash play.
Dremel never caught another TD after September - teams took away the slants RU was running to death.
Tonight's receivers were way above 23 and of course most people miss that to focus on QB.

Here's pretty much the same play 2023 vs 2024

Someone show AK a Dremel highlight reel from last year. Stat.

That said.. One obvious drop from the WR corps? not too shabby.

Very few, if any, "Who the hell was he throwing to?" questions.. that's great.

AK taking 3-4 seconds to decide then shifting into get-out-of-Dodge mode with quick feet - priceless.

Ian Strong keeps going this way he could be another Kenny Britt by the time he exits Rutgers.

Agree on strong. Some jackass said move him to defense because he is not good. Low football IQ posters ruin these boards

I do not think we are going to see 1 WR get a ton of the catches. I think we are going to see a lot of quick game, and mid range game to a lot of different players.

This! 8 different players had at least one reception last night. AK did a nice job of going through his progressions which is something our prior QB had difficulty with.

He reads the field, the rad options, and the RPO very very well. I do want to see what he can do in the vertical game though.

Shouldn’t your gifted receiver get more balls thrown to him?

The receivers had more than one drop.

And let's chill on the Strong-Britt comparisons. Holy moly.

I was 50/50 as to whether AK was doing read-option well. First mesh handoff.. exceptionally sure he was making teh read and the right read. Next two.. he just gave up the ball when he should have kept it.. then he kept it properly again. That's all I noticed. It could be one of those that I thought he should have kept it was just too hard of a read.

I suspect there will be teams with physical talented DEs who can be ver hard to read of quick enough to handle whatever choice is made.

But overall.. vastly superior RPO this year compared to both Wimsatt and Vedral before him.

I do wonder if Sheppard will be better at it in time.. he has a lightning first step but he better make the right read. I think maybe having a QB ahead of him who does it correctly may help a lot.

I didn't like the back shoulder to Long. That should be to Strong or Miller. The db was able to interfere with Long and not get called for it. He's too slight. Also not really a fan of throwing 1 back shoulder fade a game for 20 yards. Feels like a low percentage play if you rarely dial it up.

We would have likely hit the deep cross to Miller if we had better pass protection on the play.

Dremel was listed as "questionable" on a list I saw. They probably were protecting him + giving the other guys time.
ahhh.. some of those balls where the defender draped over our receivers.. a couple times before teh ball got there... Dremel had a way of catching the balls anyway last year.

Or if AK stepped into the throw and taken the hit rather than fade and try it off the back foot. Did not like seeing that choice.. reminded me of Nova.

I don't want to see him take that hit, especially against a team like Howard when the game is in hand. We have a legitimate quarterback this year. If he goes out we probably go back to similar to something like last year.

Without our two best linebackers, I don't think we can just put the game in the hands of our defense this year. Scoring will be a priority in my opinion. It wasn't last year.

The TD pass and second completion to the TE were both RPO passes. They read the placement of the DE/OLB, then roll and read the levels with the TE running a quick out.

True.. I considered that too. settling on its better he didn't take the hit... we need him. But I still wonder... when we need the score.. will he step into the throw with rushers in his face? I hope he is the type that will. Really though, you are correct.. it is the best of both worlds if that was a health choice at that time because we didn't need it vs Howard.

oh.. I better rewatch that. Totally missed throws off RPO.. my bad. That is something I have been dying to see also.. being we have one of the best RBs in the game... it should work well. Good to hear.

Back to Rayomds burst- impressive.

Millen made quick mention of seeing him in practice. Must be lighting it up to be next after SB ( know there were some injuries). Really stacked at rb

This. WR is our deepest position on the team. By far. So much so WR Brantley is having trouble seeing the field. Last year he was screwed by the NCAA.. he was expected to be one of our top WRs along with Jackson.

Antwan Raymond is going to be very good. I guess he will be redshirted this year huh? Edd Guerrier is another bruising freshman RB who was out with an injury, he will probably be redshirted.

Same short passing game as before but with more accuracy. Only possession receivers, no vertical threats. SB4’s busted coverage swing pass TD was the only pass with YAC and the 3 yrd TD pass bc #5 got stuffed was nice but doesn’t show being able to pass downfield.

Better overall QB and WR play than last year? Probably, but just one game.

Will need more vertical passing else a 6-6 repeat is very possible.
