Couldn't find my regular jersey for the game and saw old #27 hanging there. I thought why not. He made a huge mistake, He lost his career because of it. He went on to speak to college kids about it. They were both drunk, she spit in his face and he lost it. She forgave him they still got married afterwards.

So I put it on, went downstairs and my wife's face turned absolutely white. She would answer the above question with NFW.

Interested in what the board thinks. Gentlemen? Ladies? Can he ever be forgiven? Is it socially acceptable to wear a Ray Rice jersey at the stadium?

He's still married
Wife wasn't even injured (no brusies - nothing) so they couldn't press aggravated assault
Ray hit a casino security guard the same night
He was spitting at opposing NFL players during games
Ray was injured that season and taking illegal drugs to heal - it made him kinda ragey
Harbaugh said he was 10lbs overweight - and that it was all muscle.
Contrary to people who thought the injury finished Rice, he came back the next year at 206lbs and was going to explode for a great year (he was averaging 13 yds a carry in preseason and looked great).
He made a mistake but an edited video tape was the kicker. Without the tape he's just another NFLer fighting ugly with his wife - dime a dozen

It's fine. stop being a little *****.

He paid the price for his misjudgment. He should still be celebrated for what he did at RU.

To throw away all of what he did for Rutgers football for a moment of misjudgment, is petty.

Life has its ups and downs, you don't just judge people at their lowest points. He's also done a lot for his community and other than that domestic issue, is a standup role model.

He doesn’t deserve ever being on the sideline, the big video screen, the HOF…never.

Second chance with his loves ones, sure. But Rutgers must do better.

Good luck in your life 27. Bye.

Found the guy who wears a mask in his car alone..

Seriously dude. Get over it, people make mistakes. He didn't murder a person. He's done everything right after his mistake to make things better and to bring awareness to domestic violence.

You're pathetic

He slugged his wife. And we celebrate him ? Not me.

Not a single one of you would be on his side if it were your daughter he punched. Hypocrites.

Thanks for asking a serious question. It deserves a serious answer...The young lady who was assaulted by Ray Rice now wears his name EVERY DAY. If she can wear his Jersey proudly...you sure as heck can wear yours...PROUDLY!
Love and forgiveness. She hate the sin and still loves the man.

“He was good at football at RU so let’s forgive him!”

PSU called, they have an opening for you…
You are an idiot.

1 instance of domestic violence which was resolved amicably between both parties is not remotely the same as multiple instance of child rape covered up by an organization.

What planet are you on?

What an absolute dumbass...

How many times have you hit a woman?

1 time is too many for certain things, on planet Earth.
You realize he didn't hit her in a vacuum right?

She spit on him and they were both drunk. The issue was resolved between them amicably so there is no reason to dwell on it.

BTW as a sidebar

If the situation was flipped I'm sure people would be fine with a women hitting a man for spitting on her, it'd be viewed as self-defense or something (I would). But we live in a society that only pretends to want equality for men and women but in practice put women on a pedestal and gives them more leeway allowing them to get away with more without reprisal. This can also be seen in our justice system and court of public opinion.

Even the adage "you never hit a woman", is sexist when you aspire for equality and egalitarianism.

1. Nobody cares what jersey you choose to wear or not wear. Do you think someone will confront you?

2. I generally have zero regard for the opinions of strangers about me - especially regarding what I wear. You would be wise to do the same.
I’ll be wearing my Rutgers hat tomorrow to pick up coffee - same as I did last Sunday.

Call it whatever you want, she wasn’t a threat to the 205 pound NFL athlete and it was not a proper response. Hitting her was wrong, period.
you realize booze lowers your inhibitions right?

No one that is drunk is going to be thinking if it's a proper response to hit someone or defend themselves when they get spit on. They just act.

I agree it was a poor situation to put himself in with so much on the line.

And he lost a lot because of it. Learned a lot from it, healed from it and moved on.

There is no reason to penalize him further for it.

You are treating him like he is OJ or something...

Aside from the entire incident being unfortunate for both of them, the fact it was caught on camera was the death-blow to his image and career. That kind of domestic violence happens all the time behind closed doors. But explain to me how Adrian Peterson EVER stepped on a NFL field again after whipping his kid with a switch that sent the poor kid to the hospital. Hitting your adult lady friend while drunk during an altercation is one thing. But whipping a helpless kid is unconscionable.

Agreed. I was just curious as to what the board thought. If you're old enough to remember Rice at Rutgers you're old enough to not run your life based on other's opinions. I was just curious as to what they were.

Ah, yes, if I had known he was drunk I never would have condoned him. Hitting a woman while drunk totally absolves him of any responsibility here.
I think you mean "condemn" not "condone". They mean totally opposite things.

Anyway I don't condone what he did either. I condemn him for his misjudgment and decision to get drunk in the first place when he had so much on the line. He has literally thrown away millions of dollars that his family could have used in the future.

But one misjudgment does not define his life and character or take away his immense contributions to Rutgers football or to his community of New Rochelle, where he has contributed significantly.

There are many of us that have made poor decision in our lives. Decision and actions we'd like to have back, aren't proud off and would like not to be defined by them.

Judge based on the breadth and depth of his deeds and actions not just based on 1 or 2 outlier data points. To base your judgement on outliers, not only provides inaccurate conclusions but also shows immense bias.

very well said

this thread has me looking to buy a RR Jersey for the next game. Maybe I'll have it cut in half and sewn together with a Trump 2024 shirt to really trigger the fembots.

Are you sure Trump won't have kicked the bucket by 2024?
His last month in office also calls his mental faculties and mental stability into question (if it didn't already from his earlier faux pas).

The last thing we need is to continue this run of unhinged senile geriatrics running the whitehouse...

2016-2024 is already too much of that.

We need more younger people running for president and other political offices.

Snowflakes? Wearing a mask in a car alone? And you think other people are idiots? You wear your dipshit politics on your sleeve like a tool (and surprise surprise, they're a complete and total joke).

Anyone who uses the word "snowflakes" unironically automatically has **** for brains.

Well the other word I was going to use isn't as "politically correct" I don't give a **** about politics buddy

I do sometimes

But it's usually from laziness with taking it off and on again when I'm running errands. For long drives with very few stops, I don't wear them.
