By all accounts Jalen Steele is a good kid and a leader. Most think highly of Jalen , including Shane Power

Shane Power<s>@</s>shanepower21I'm more than shocked Jalen Steele is suspended indefinitely. I'm hoping this is resolved quickly because he's a great kid and teammate

This is sort of starting to get ridiculous with the players getting kicked off the team and the suspensions. Does anyone else think we have this much chaos within the program, or just another attempt by Ray to flex his muscle and inflate his ego to others that he is the new sheriff in town? Basketball season cannot end soon enough

I like Ray and think he is fresh air for the program, but he won't be around in 3 years. He has a recruiting deficiency. Our current class consists of a JUCO player that averages about 10, a player that can't crack his HS team's starting lineup, and a 5'10" PG (who I really like BTW).

You do realize every senior on that team around 6 or 7, has signed a scholly at a major d-1 program. Stop acting like he isn't starting at New Albany.

Yes, I do realize that. And that also tells me when he gets to D1 that he'll most likely be less talented than the other D1 players he'll face. He's a project - plain and simple. If we're lucky he'll contribute by year 3. But by that point it might be too late.

What guy have you been watching all year? Inflate his ego? Total horseshit. If anything he has been much more humble than expected considering the reaction he received from so many who put Stans above the success of the program.

Plus ....HD6 may need to look closely at the title of your post for a decision.

Its an easy thing to do when you are handed a job with no expectations. And it doesn't hurt that the prevailing culture among many of the MSU faithful is to blame it on the last guy.

The bar has been set so low, he gets a free pass for everything, no matter what he does.

You've got to be kidding me.

He can't walk in and be Billy Badass and just start recruiting top notch guys. He's got to evaluate, make connections, and try to find guys that can do some things well enough to contribute. He did that with Davis and Applewhite, but unfortunately they got injured and we were left with a PG that wasn't expected to start and no guard depth.

He's a good coach and anyone that questions that at this point is either butt hurt because they loved Stansbury too much or they just don't know basketball. He will get a chance to prove how well he can recruit soon enough, but to expect him to come into a program like ours that is in complete and total rebuild mode and get good basketball players to magically want to come to MSU overnight is beyond insane. Having depth next year will allow us to at least have a shot at being a .500 team, which in year 2 of a rebuild where the year before we may finish worst in the SEC, I would say that's pretty damn good.

I have watched all the games on TV and told someone 3 or 4 games ago if we had a problem on the team it is JS just by watching him on TV.

So MSU hired a guy that needs to "make connections" before he can start drawing talent?

it may be worse than I thought.

So you think Ray just willy nilly decided to suspend Steele? You dont think he did it because Steele possibly violated team rules like he said? You dont think it's possible Steele failed a drug test? I have no idea why he suspended him- but I'm more than willing to give Ray the benefit- not Steele.

The other two guys he kicked off failed MULTIPLE drug tests. They were told-"if you fail another one- you're done". And then they failed another one. How is that Ray "flexing his muscle?" If Ray had said that and didnt follow thru- I would have wanted him fired.

The days of the inmates telling the coach how things are going to be is over...

Agree with Coach34. He's exactly right. Steele didn't pass one of his tests. Ray backs up his discipline so Steele's sitting on his *** in Starkville. He decided to violate team rules. Stupid of him and selfish too.

Honest to god, most of you ******** act like this is an NBA team.

I'm glad as hell we never hired a coach like Tom Crean. We would fire him into the season 3 weeks. The guy won like 2 games his 2nd year.

Give Ray Arkansas's, South Carolina's, or Auburn's roster and he ends top 5 in the SEC. The fact that we're better than LSU with 6 guys shows something. Have y'all never really watched a Stansbury team without bias? The **** was awful. It hurts my pride to lose so much but I actually have more optimism that I ever have had before for MSU basketball. Ray may or may not be the guy. Helps not having Stans around for my hopefulness that we might have a great team one day.

I gotta call BS on some of this for several reasons:

1. No one. I mean no one. Not Coach K. Not Bill Self. No one could make South Carolina or Auburn into a top 5 in the SEC team this season.

2. We are not "better than LSU". I would trade rosters in a heartbeat with LSU. At least they are looking at a possible NIT bid.

3. You are actually saying that you have more optimism about MSU basketball now than when we went 26-4 and won the SEC or when we went to the NCAA tourney 4 straight years??? You must have really hated Stansbury.

I fully support Coach Ray and think he will show how good a coach he is when he has a full roster but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

I think that is true for all coaches..

Three years from now let's see if he has the guts to do it then. Lets be honest that was one of the things that got Stansbury in trouble.

Could it be that Ndoye from Findlay Prep a perennial top program in the nation is a connection? Next time Ray recruits any player from that school he already has one foot in the door. Ndoye is raw but physically he has a big upside. He's already chiseled and if we could have our version of Balis for the basketball team he could end up looking like a smaller Patrick Young atleast physically. Again he's raw as 17 but get him in the weight room for a couple years and you never know. The one game I saw of his Findlay Prep was playing the #1 team in the country Montverde. Prep was #2 btw and Ndoye played half the game and had to guard the #1 rated center in the nation Dakari Johnson whose a UK signee. Ndoye did alright against him. He won't have to guard a better player his entire career at MSU most likely than he did in that game except when he goes up against Kentucky again and faces Johnson but Ndoye will be on the bench next year while Johnson is a one and done player.

I'll say one thing about this team, they play hard til the last whistle. I like our team now. We just have to have patience. To me, it sounds like these players wouldn't abide by Rays rules and he wasn't takin any ****.

Sounds like Stans was very lenient with his rules and Ray is not. Give this guy a couple years and be patient. I think he has potential.

I wish him all the success in the world....want him to win....his team shows effort and i appreciate it.....but he has to stop all this GD excuse making....

Excuse is poor term to use. No depth is a FACT, and without depth you are not going to win in any league. The fatigue factor is or has caught up with these youngsters. Too many, too few legs!

I don't understand how people can be critical right now.

The sample size is so small and you cannot gather anything because we do not have enough players. My biggest concern is only bringing in Ndoye (raw), JC in Daniels (averaging 10ppg), and IJ Ready. We aren't adding much, but we will be better at PG next year and we will be able to practice 5 on 5. Ware has to take a big step next year as does Wendell.

Well we also add the two guys Applewhite and Davis who missed all this season with injury and Wendell, who missed most of the season. So it's really like we're bringing in 6 new guys. The days of guys like Baxter Price playing meaningful minutes in SEC games will hopefully be over.

Well assuming Lewis comes back we are maxed out for next year so we can't bring in anything else:

Steele, Lewis, Ware, Borchert, Sword, Thomas, Applewhite, Davis, Johnson, Bloodman plus the 3 signees makes 13. That's all the scholarships you are allowed.

we went to the Final Four playing 8 guys

Daryl Wilson,Marcus Bullard, Erick Dampier, Big Country, Dontae Jones, Whit Hughes, Bart Hyche, and Tyrone Washington werethe only guys on that team to play valuable minutes. Why is everyone acting like "depth"is such a huge issue?

Wow. Just wow.

Well absolutely most teams play with 8 players but please tell me you at least understand its the quality of the 8 players that wins games. I just looked at the box from yesterday's game and Baxter Price played 15 freakin minutes. 15!!! So you think we would've gone to the Final Four with David Rula playing valuable minutes on the 96 team? Yeah. Please tell me since this team is playing 8 guys we have "depth". While I have no idea about your other arguments (but after talking to many people around the program, you're probably way off base), the argument that you only have to have 8 guys (no matter the skill level) to compete is the most asinine thing I've ever heard. That is all.

What excuses? He has no depth. That is a fact, not an excuse.

And don't give me the whole "he didn't have to kick off and suspend players" ******** argument. You don't have to divorce your wife if she cheats on you with the entire Saints Defensive Line in a single night, but you're a dubmass if you don't.

Depth is an issue becase

We have guys playing 20+ minutes a game that wouldn't even make our ideal 8 that get real playing time. Many of them should be getting 5 or less a game.

That, and Ray's style of offense and defense needs depth.

your and dubmass. Failed tests have a set penalty, not indefinite. This has to be somethig like insubordination or not going to practice or something.

Not hardly. Steele wasn't the only one who failed, two more did. Technicalities prevent further suspensions right now. You'll see eventually. Or check around for yourself. It can't stay secret long.
