Because it is against NCAA rules. Coaches can not comment on prospects until they have signed their letter of intent - in the fall of their senior year.

Of course, like everything else in today's age - there are no real secrets. So players who are being recruited often supply the info. Plus, it is always out in the industry who a head coach is looking at - UConn prospects are regularly discussed on their message board and it is always known who is coming on official visits. But that info doesn't come from the basketball office.

Unless the rule has changed, the NCAA does allow confirmation that a specific player is being recruited.
