@What Would Jesus Do? will be proud of me, I think.

For the following 20 political issues rate yourself from 1-10 where a 1 represents the farthest left view and 10 is the farthest right. DISCLAME: Gemini came up these I just asked it to come with the top 20 issues and describe the furthest left and furthest right stances.

Here are top political issues with opposing sides, largely based on trends leading into the 2026 midterm elections (according to Gemini):

Economy & Government
  1. Inflation & Cost of Living:Debates center on whether government spending or corporate pricing is the primary driver, with arguments for price controls versus free-market approaches.
    • 1: Enact strict federal price controls on all essential goods and corporate profits.
    • 10: Eliminate all market regulations and let supply and demand dictate prices entirely.
  2. Federal Budget Deficit:Divided over whether to cut government services/social programs or increase taxes on corporations and high earners.
    • 1: Tax high earners and corporations heavily to fund and expand public social programs.
    • 10: Abolish income tax entirely and deeply cut or eliminate federal social programs.
  3. Tax Policy:Disputes regarding the extension of tax cuts versus implementing wealth taxes to address inequality.
    • 1: Institute a heavy progressive wealth tax to actively redistribute assets and income.
    • 10: Implement a low, single-rate flat tax or consumption tax for everyone equally.
  4. Trade & Tariffs:Arguments over protectionist tariffs (like those proposed in 2026) protecting domestic jobs versus causing higher prices and international retaliation.
    • 1: Mandate strict global labor and environmental regulations on all imports.
    • 10: Impose total protectionist tariffs to completely isolate the domestic market from foreign trade.
  5. Labor & Wages: Tension between raising the federal minimum wage versus opposing mandates to avoid harming small businesses. 1: Set a high federal minimum wage automatically tied to inflation for all industries.10: Abolish the federal minimum wage entirely to let businesses negotiate all pay.
Immigration & Safety
  1. Border Security:Polarization between implementing harsh immigration crackdowns/deportations and focusing on humanitarian processing and pathway to citizenship.
    • 1: Open all borders completely and offer immediate citizenship to any migrant arriving.
    • 10: Complete a militarized border wall and deport all non-citizens immediately.
  2. Gun Control:High-profile disagreements on banning specific types of firearms versus strengthening Second Amendment rights.
    • 1: Ban and confiscate all firearms from private citizens nationwide.
    • 10: Allow any citizen to own any weapon of any kind without permits or restrictions.
  3. Crime & Policing: Debate over "law and order" approaches (funding police) versus focusing on systemic reform and community-based violence reduction. 1: Defund and abolish traditional police forces in favor of community-led social programs.10: Grant law enforcement absolute immunity and maximum funding for aggressive policing tactics.
Social & Cultural Issues
  1. Abortion Rights:Ongoing conflict between state-level bans or restrictions and efforts to codify reproductive rights federally.
    • 1: Guarantee free, unrestricted abortion access at any stage of pregnancy nationwide.
    • 10: Ban all abortions completely from the moment of conception with zero exceptions.
  2. LGBTQ+ Rights & Transgender Athletes:Disputes over school policies, parental rights, and restricting transgender participation in sports.
    • 1: Mandate full inclusion of transgender individuals in all spaces based strictly on self-identification.
    • 10: Ban all public or medical recognition of transgender identities and non-traditional relationships.
  3. DEI Initiatives (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion):Debate over whether to mandate or ban DEI policies in corporate and educational institutions.
    • 1: Mandate strict diversity and equity hiring quotas across all private and public sectors.
    • 10: Criminalize any corporate or educational use of diversity, equity, or inclusion metrics.
  4. Book Banning/Curriculum Control:Conflicts over banning specific books in schools versus promoting comprehensive and inclusive education.
    • 1: Mandate a standardized national curriculum focused exclusively on systemic oppression and identity.
    • 10: Allow local parents to strip any material from public schools they deem offensive.
  5. Religious Freedom vs. Anti-Discrimination: Conflicts between shielding religious practices and protecting access to public services or public employment. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] 1: Strip tax-exempt status from religious groups that refuse to follow federal anti-discrimination laws. 10: Grant religious organizations absolute immunity to bypass any civic law that violates their faith.

    • 10: Restrict voting exclusively to in-person casting on a single day with strict physical ID laws.
  2. Healthcare Affordability:Arguments for expanding government-run systems (Medicare/Medicaid) versus market-based solutions and reducing regulation.
    • 1: Abolish private insurance to establish a single-payer, government-run universal healthcare system.
    • 10: Privatize all healthcare services and completely eliminate government programs like Medicare.
  3. Foreign Policy & Alliances:Disputes over transactional "America First" foreign policies versus upholding traditional international alliances.
    • 1: Dissolve the military and funnel all defense funds into international humanitarian aid.
    • 10: Withdraw from all global alliances, including NATO, to focus strictly on isolationist policies.
  4. Federalism & Federal Power: Conflicts over state rights to override federal directives, particularly concerning regulation of AI, education, or pandemics. 1: Centralize all governing power in Washington D.C. to override any conflicting state laws. 10: Reduce the federal government to a loose confederation and return absolute sovereignty to individual states.

Fiscal conservatives /social liberal. I found this to be hard, mostly because I don’t necessarily find the poles as defined by AI to be opposites.

For instance on the tax policy, I don’t see a wealth tax to be the opposite of a flat income tax. Honestly I would flatten our income tax structure quite a bit, but also implement a much larger inheritance (wealth) tax. So I went with 5, when in reality I am both a 3 and a 7 at the same time.
