Jones, Jefferson Getting Snaps Behind First-Team Offensive Line

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — While it was just 20 minutes and four quarterbacks were getting plenty of reps both sophomore John Stephen Jones and freshman KJ Jefferson were getting some reps behind the first-team offensive line.

Arkansas practiced in the Walker Pavilion with the cold and rainy conditions outside on Tuesday. The first unit with the offensive line was Myron Cunningham (tackle) and Shane Clenin (guard) on the left side, Ty Clary at center and then Ricky Stromberg (guard) and Dalton Wagner (tackle).
Senior Ben Hicks and junior Nick Starkel were also getting work at quarterback during the open period. Chad Morris has said he will start the one who he feels gives him the best chance to win the game. Starkel has started five games, Hicks three and Jones played in relief of Starkel on Saturday. That was Jones’ first action this season. Jefferson hasn’t played yet, but could play in each of the final four games and still maintain his redshirt season.
Capps was injured in the Auburn game and hasn’t played since that time. Morris talked about Clary, Capps and Kirby Adcock, who started the Alabama game at left guard. Adcock also filled in for Capps against Auburn when he was left the game.
“We anticipate Clary being back (from shoulder injury),” Morris said. “Kirby right now is doubtful. Austin Capps is another one that we’ll see if he’s back. That’s kind of day to day with him.”
Arkansas and Mississippi State will try to break long losing streaks on Saturday. The Razorbacks have lost five straight and the Bulldogs four. The kickoff is set for 3 p.m. and broadcast on the SEC Network.

Let's see. Famous Arkansas Alums with the last name Jones???

Oh right that's the grandson of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

I’ve now been living in Arkansas for 3 years, and as bad as the hogs have been lately, it continues to amaze me as to how many guys they seem to always have coming up that can allegedly throw it 80 yards from their knees, kick 70 yard FGs in practice, or wrestle bears.

There’s always some phenom at every position according to their fans.

That said, I still have a very bad feeling about Saturday. All you had to do was watch our defense’s response after A&M scored in the second half, and you could tell that their spirit was completely broken. Now that injuries are mounting, it wouldn’t shock me to watch Ark put up 40 on us

We're going to be playing true freshman all over the secondary and walk ons. Get ready for a shoot out no matter who the QB is. If Morris tries to run the ball all game, he really is a terrible coach.

Our fans do crown players way too early based on a really small sample size. Especially players from Arkansas, I guess it's because we're the only P5 team in the state so they see these guys play in high school and think they're unstoppable. John Stephen Jones scored a TD in the 4th quarter against Alabama so they wonder why he hasn't been playing all year lol.

I'm intrigued to see him play more too just because he can run a little better than Starkel or Hicks and he was great in HS but the guy is like 5'7, 165. Would probably be the smallest QB in SEC History.

KJ on the other hand I think could be legit. He has a great combo of size and athleticism but his accuracy still needs to be developed. We need to get both of the younger QBs some reps but Hicks is probably the "safer" option even if he isn't as talented so Morris is in a tough spot and will probably get flack from fans no matter who plays QB.

i don't think it matters what they do. we can't stop the run or the pass this year.

Yep and I still am not even mad about that. It's expected, and further decimated by suspensions. The problem is the offense. It just doesn't work.

If we can't do anything Saturday, I'd be alright with bringing in Stevens.

Yeah, and in fairness, when I say “fans”, I’m talking about a small group of in laws that we hang out with quite a bit. However, I did get a kick out of an uncle telling us that they were about win 8 games after finally putting Starkel in the game against OM. According to him, Starkel has a documented strongest arm in the country, and he was a Peyton Manning clone.

Then, while we attended the KY game in person in Lexington, he proceeds to tell us that there wasn’t any reason for the cats to even attempt to field a kickoff because Ark has a kicker that knocks 75 yarders through the uprights with both feet in practice.

Great guy, but I swear that the hogs could dang near beat the Dallas Cowboys every year according to him. Another pro tip involving him is that whenever he gives you his picks for Oaklawn, do the opposite

Sounds like they just need an offensive savant to guide them.
