Behind OleMiss, TCU, Baylor, FSU... Not happy. If Stanford and Iowa win, that could pop the strength of schedule but NU 14 Michigan 15 is a clear indication to me that the don't want to see a 4th big ten team in the new years six. Ole Miss getting a jump means they want to sneak in a second SEC team. Why would I expect any fairness coming from the college football committee.
Dear Fitz, no longer expect fairness from anybody. Not the Big Ten officials, not bowl organizations, not the playoff committee. Just win every fu cking game by 50 points or we're going to be shut out of what the team deserves. I hope we play a team in front of us (see Ole Miss) in the bowl game and whip their ***.

Sorry but your happiness has nothing to do with it. We are about where we should be, you are just being petty. Obviously it didnt mean anything to you or Fitz when it mattered.

If Bama beats Florida, the SEC gets 2 teams in regardless. The next highest team could be ranked 50th and they'd still get in. The Sugar Bowl is obligated to take them.
The rankings, as much as they aren't favorable to NU here, are pretty fair. You lose 2 games by 68 points and you can't really complain about anything. Simple as that. No team in the top 10 has lost a game by more than 10.

I expected to be in front of 3 loss teams and 2 loss teams with a worse strength of schedule. This puts us in front of Ole Miss, Baylor and FSU. It puts us behind Oklahoma State, so 12. The answer is to be 12.
At the end of the day, a New Year's Day win over an SEC team would be a fantastic outcome. Surprised there isn't more talk about what needs to happen for NU to get Florida, which would seem like the best matchup. I want no part Ole Miss.
Here's the thing, the SEC doesn't need to sneak anyone in. If Alabama wins they will be in the CFP and a second SEC team will be in the Sugar, presumably Ole Miss. This is because the Sugar Bowl has in their contract that they will replace the SEC conference champion with the next highest ranked SEC team. The committee rankings determine playoff spots and at-large spots. (For the record the Sugar Bowl has the same conditions in their contract with the Big 12). If Alabama loses then Florida would be the Sugar Bowl representative and Alabama would be in line for an at-large.
Most interesting to me is the positioning of North Carolina. From the tenth spot I don't think they can pass Stanford or Ohio State with a win over Clemson.
Stanford looks best positioned to capitalize on an upset. Ohio State likely needs two of Stanford, Clemson and Alabama to be upset.

We were 15 last week, had an unimpressive victory, and now we are 14, ahead of a team that hammered us.
The Ole Miss leap is puzzling but whatever.
North Carolina is hosed in terms of the playoff, but it reflects a very weak schedule.
I completely agree with Shakes. There should be no three loss team above us and we should be just below Stanford. Stanford's ranking is generous so Stanford at 9th and Northwestern at 11th would be OK for this week with NU moving up a slot next week.

It does matter if we get snubbed from playing in a New Year's Six Bowl because all indications are that the Citrus will allow a lower ranked team to leap frog us.

Given that the committee isn't following any kind of mathematical formula or anything, why do they have to have a rule that margin of victory has no bearing? Is it just to avoid people running up the score? I mean, that's great and all, but I don't know if it's necessary to make it a rule. The 38-0 beatdown happened, and like it or not, it should probably be used to judge NU's merits. The same way the fluky Michigan loss to Michigan State might almost be considered "half a win" to Michigan.
Guys can be pissed all they want. Here's a little way that will help being snubbed in the rankings. When ya have a chance to pound a team ya pound them
I honestly was not surprised by the Ole Miss leap...if anything I was surprised they were so low coming out of last week; they beat their ranked rival on the road, while we beat our unranked/non-bowl bound rival at a neutral site down the street. And that Alabama win is still a little shinier than ours over Stanford.
The Committee's rules are 'there are no rules', and the only reason rankings are published are to keep us talking about it and to give the committee members incentive to participate (swanky hotel and sweet catering). Their charge is, 'using the strange voting cadence we've laid out, identify the top four teams'. Period. They bring their own biases about what makes a top team. That's how it's designed. The bcs expressly eliminated margin of victory/defeat as a metric in its computer rankings, but the bcs is dead.
UNC could most definitely jump to number four with a win ('I didn't believe, but now I do'), because the committee nominally starts fresh every time they get in the room.
I think NU is appropriately ranked, perhaps a bit high. Any team that can look that bad twice in a season probably isn't a top 15 team.
Mississippi is a good team with a dominant win over the weekend and a win over the team everyone is saying is the best in the world. They deserve a high ranking.
I'm still holding on to glimmer of hope for NY6 invite. Could NU move up a few spots and grab the last NY6 spot from if the below teams lose this weekend?

I would be almost anything that we don't make the NY6...don't be disappointed with a Citrus or Outback Bowl bid...these are prominent January 1 games, and I'm honestly still surprised Citrus didn't actually become an official Big Six game.
