Recruiting is important to college basketball and Lucas is easily one of the best in the game. Give him Kentucky’s resources and we’re back to having Cal-esque recruiting classes with a younger, hungrier coach.
I'd LOVE Lucas,.. OR Rondo!!! Either/Or would be a smart hire,..for a change!!! I also like Dennis Gates (Missouri). All of them young and smart.

A few others that come to mind are Isiah Thomas, Avery Johnson, Sidney Moncrief, Mike Woodson and Willis Reed.

You’re absolutely right. Hiring coaches with no prior CBB experience because they were big shot NBAers has always been a prescription for failure. Yet schools still occasionally keep foolishly trying it.

I’d like to see Rondo cut his teeth elsewhere first. The NBA is honestly more about the players than the coach imo. Hence Phil Jackson falling on his face in New York when he didn’t have Kobe, Shaq or MJ for the first time in his career.
College is more about the coach.

Rondo does not have a degree and you have to have one to coach in college
This is what I've always understood, too.
It is good that he recently completed his.
With his son, you cannot help but remember Wade Houston at Tennessee to coach Allan.

I guess that was before my time. Did it not work out?

Allan was an exceptional player, but Tennessee struggled as a team. I did NOT intend to suggest that Rando coaching at KY would not be a good idea ... it was that the possibility of his coaching at KY with his son to follow reminded me of Wade and Allan at Tennessee. Hire a coach, get his son ...

What was his as you wrote "coaching accomplishment"? I'm simply using your words.
Duke went with kind of the same model as Arizona. While the coach didn't have any head coach accomplishments, they were longtime assistants under an elite coach while winning accomplishments. Again, both were very familiar with coaching the college game, already excellent recruiters, etc. Scheyer earned his stripes through being trained to be the lead guy.

Being an assistant under good head coaches at good programs is key in development of coaching. Mark Pope is a smart guy, but he's never been an assistant under any good head coaches. I think that is something that has hindered him the most.

Rondos son is going to be a stud. Would be nice to have them both here at the same time

Since there's really no good news anytime I log on here I want to make a friendly wager with anyone that Rajon Rondo will be a NBA coach in the next few years.

Meanwhile Kentuckys fanbase says noooooo to somebody like him while justifying Mark Pope and his 9th place sec. Even the ones that don't think Mark Pope is the guy feel like the only option for UK is the previous national championship winner.

Like the Michigan coach and uconn coach are the only options. Kentucky and it's fanbase are stuck in the 1950s.

Also the amount of times I've seen jai lucas be mentioned on here but Rondo can't get a chance?

Do y'all know Rondo is one of the most respected basketball players ever? He's not good enough for Kentucky but he will be good enough for the NBA.

Sorry just another venting post thinking about how Pope won't even get a GM or act like a modern program.
I wanted Rondo.

THIS IS ANOTHER FAKE troll! Asking all UK fans to avoid posting in these threads. We are in the process of weeding out these new trolls. Thanks
