Been reading in other places about him possibly entering the portal etc. Seems to be authenic, but these days who knows. Wonder if there are locker room problems in Lincoln.

He went to multiple high schools. Decommitted from Ohio st and Georgia. So if he left Lincoln would be far from shocked. Especially with his ego and wanting to play on a bigger stage.

nothing about this situation should surprise any of us. We all know that that is just the way it is in the modern world of college football. I would be surprised if the "odd man out" of the Nebraska quarterback derby does NOT transfer and remains as a backup.

On a related note, Michigan State seems to be in a similar situation. I think that that new guy, Milosovech (sp?) is better than Chiles, but Chiles could probably start somewhere that is fairly good, like Iowa.

Imagine the reaction on all of these boards if any of them, ESPECIALLY RAIOLA, ends up at Iowa?

In today's CF world, moving around to find the best spot is the name of the game. Make money, win a championship, be on the cover of Sports Illustrated, etc. Why work extra hard to make your current team better when you can just find a new one.
It will be interesting to see how it works out for those who chase the money and move around multiple times during college.

Compared to a player that develops under consistent coaching, training, etc.

I think if you asked most Iowa fans which player would end up in the NFL between Jestin Jacobs and Kristian Welch. I would guess that the answers would be lopsided towards Jacobs.

But, all I could find on Jacobs was that he was invited to the Dolphins training camp this year.

Meanwhile Kristian has played 5 seasons in the NFL with Ravens and Packers. And has earned just over $6M to date.

No idea what Jacobs made in NIL at Oregon, but it wouldn’t have been anywhere close to 5 years in the NFL money.

Maybe we had Jacobs rated too high and Welch rated too low? Or maybe injuries played a factor?

But, part of me can’t help but think Jacobs is in the league right now had he stayed and developed at Iowa.

Do not want blow-up doll Mahomes. If he wasn’t so weird and awkward, he might be worth a look. He’d be a good fit in Ames, as is.

No clue what year their starter is but if mahomes tells him to go to Texas Tech he’s on first plane to Lubbock. Plus god knows that school has the $

Uncle OL Coach is dead man walking. If Rhule had put the team first and not the QB, uncle would have been fired a couple years ago.
Just makes me laugh how Nebraska is always pumping those recruiting classes every year and that OL/DL is always so soft and terrible.

I’ll only believe it when I see it, but it wouldn’t surprise me. But as much as I’d love to pin it as an issue bc if Nebraska, it’s a countrywide ncaa problem. NFL money is not a given even for top talent due to injuries or just dumb luck. Get the money now when it’s guaranteed - and frankly unregulated. It’s so dumb.

that said, it will all get complicated for Neb if the want to keep DR but ditch his uncle as OL coach.

My personal guess is they give it one more year at Neb and then if things don’t look rosey, go looking for a bag of money his senior year.

I thought Welch's HS film was elite. He had all the physical attributes you would want in a LB. I am not surprised he made it in the NFL
Jacobs was a next-level player in 2021. He got hurt early in 22 and was never the same player afterwards. That would have been true even if he stayed at Iowa

He’d be a top 10, if not top 5 quarterback in the portal. Iowa would be lucky to get him!
I’m sure he’d command and receive a hefty pay day if he entered the portal. If he did Iowa would have a 0.0% chance of getting him.

however I’m more curious if Iowa ventures into the portal for a qb again or if Lester believes hecklinski or Hank are capable of being the guy next year?

I think that we lose at least one of them regardless. Just the way that CFB is these days. I bet we add another QB or two after the shuffling.

This is a very good observation. I’ve thought about that previously too in regards to Jacobs. I’m not sure if his instincts were on the level but we needed, but he seemed to be a very good player for us and usually those guys stick around in the NFL for a while.

Agreed. I hope we decide to develop hecklinski and put the $ elsewhere. The portal qb deal hasn't worked as well as development has for us.

In my 40 years of working one of the things I’ve learned is that often, to get your true financial value, you have to move on from a position. Your employer takes your work for value and an outside employer values your experience more. Probably true in college football as well

Word on the street is he wanted to build a shrine to Mahomes in his locker and got told no.
