I think it’s possible that he is more versatile in the passing game.Bizarre how he goes from #4 and out of the rotation to #1 in a single week.
How was his pass blocking?I think it’s possible that he is more versatile in the passing game.
To be fair, we have a bunch of average to mediocre running backs. None of them are really stepping up to be the premier back.makes one wonder if the coaching staff knows anything or can they evauate any position. maybe we should go to guest coaches at different positions each week. put in a couple bucks into a drawing and use half the money raised to buy some coaching books.
Rahmir is a guy I bashed quite a bit last year, but he's certainly improved this year. Hope he continues to prove me wrong. My math has Rahmir at 102 all purpose yards - (42 rushing, 48 receiving, 12 return). That’s a nice game and he may now be our number 1 back. Would think Gabe is injured. What happened to Stepp? Was the OU D just not a good match for his game?
This sounds about right. Frost made a comment to the effect that all of the RBs are about even so he plays the ones who look the best in practice that week. Not a fan of this approach, seems more like someone trying to prevent departures than trying to develop a couple who can be relied upon each week.It seems like none of the four have done anything to separate themselves. Time for someone to step up in a game and claim the role.
It looked like Ervin had taken the role before he was injured. Rahmir did step up.It seems like none of the four have done anything to separate themselves. Time for someone to step up in a game and claim the role.
When it comes to evaluating players for depth chart or playing time, it seems this staff has over-emphasized off-field and practice metrics. To the point where some playmakers haven’t been granted the opportunity to show what they can do in an actual game. It’s like they fully believed that culture would always trump talent, but culture really trumps talent only when talent lacks culture. I suspect that has been a factor in our player retention problems. There is reason to hope that finally, maybe, after years of mentor ship from good/great coaches, after feeling the fear of being fired, Frost will finally understand that playing your best players gives you your best chance to win and save your job. But I’m not convinced he’s smart enough to recognize that, so I am going to wait and see.makes one wonder if the coaching staff knows anything or can they evauate any position. maybe we should go to guest coaches at different positions each week. put in a couple bucks into a drawing and use half the money raised to buy some coaching books.
It sure seems the coaches don't know what the hell they're doing at running backmakes one wonder if the coaching staff knows anything or can they evauate any position. maybe we should go to guest coaches at different positions each week. put in a couple bucks into a drawing and use half the money raised to buy some coaching books.
I can't imagine he can be that dumbWhen it comes to evaluating players for depth chart or playing time, it seems this staff has over-emphasized off-field and practice metrics. supposedly stepp struggles at pass blockingMy math has Rahmir at 102 all purpose yards - (42 rushing, 48 receiving, 12 return). That’s a nice game and he may now be our number 1 back. Would think Gabe is injured. What happened to Stepp? Was the OU D just not a good match for his game?
Agree. He looked like a track star last year with no wiggle and no power. Looked completely different against OU… like an actual running back. Hope that continues.Rahmir is a guy I bashed quite a bit last year, but he's certainly improved this year. Hope he continues to prove me wrong.
Kind of makes you think the running back coach doesn't know what he is doing. A recruiter (didn't say a good one) but I don't think a good coach.Bizarre how he goes from #4 and out of the rotation to #1 in a single week.
If he wants to prevent departures, he's playing the wrong guy. Kind of stupid to start a true freshman who's simply not ready yet when you have guys who are probably more capable at the moment. This sounds about right. Frost made a comment to the effect that all of the RBs are about even so he plays the ones who look the best in practice that week. Not a fan of this approach, seems more like someone trying to prevent departures than trying to develop a couple who can be relied upon each week.
The RB's are the problem, and I don't think we have a single one that's close in capability to any of the guys you listed from other teams. We have a very diverse backfield this season.
-Rahmir is the fastest and should be able to beat you in space. He should be used like LaMichael James, Kenjon Barner, Deanthony Thomas from Oregon and Adrian Killins from UCF.
-Stepp is your classic downhill back ideal for a Thunder and Lightning compliment.
-Ervin and Morrison seem to be your balanced back. No certain specialty but should be able to add value in most situations. I think of a back like Correll Buckhalter.
-Scott is a small, compact guy with some wiggle. I think he's in the mode of a Mike Hart from Michigan.
-Yant is an all out bruiser likely best used situationally. I think of Javorski Lane from A&M.
I don't know if you can say that one guy is a better back than the rest when they all have such different styles. Also you can't complain about RB production when the OLine can't create holes. If we find a way to fix our run blocking, it'll magically seem like who ever is getting snaps at RB finally "stepped up and took the position." Our RBs are not the problem.
Held is a huge problem. His recruiting is way overrated and besides Ozigbo's final year, he hasn't produced much of anything. He might be next on the **** list after the OL coach.Kind of makes you think the running back coach doesn't know what he is doing. A recruiter (didn't say a good one) but I don't think a good coach.
I believe the main reason he saw a lot of snaps in 2nd half of Illinois game was because the coaches trusted his pass blocking more than the other three guys’.How was his pass blocking?
I think that who is "capable at the moment" is being determined by who has performed the best in practice the week preceding the game, and the logic is that all of the RBs appear generally even in performance, whether a super senior or a freshman. If he wants to prevent departures, he's playing the wrong guy. Kind of stupid to start a true freshman who's simply not ready yet when you have guys who are probably more capable at the moment.
The first 3 years at NU don’t support that conclusionI can't imagine he can be that dumb
The announcers made that comment during the Illinois game when Johnson came in for the last seriesI think it’s possible that he is more versatile in the passing game.
Gale Sayers would average 3 ypc with this trash O Line.To be fair, we have a bunch of average to mediocre running backs. None of them are really stepping up to be the premier back.
Yes they do, by Monday.Unfortunately I think Held, Austin and Mario need to go.
Rahmir is a guy I bashed quite a bit last year, but he's certainly improved this year. Hope he continues to prove me wrong.
supposedly stepp struggles at pass blocking
I agree, and they are all on offense. Also, hire a full time special teams coach.Unfortunately I think Held, Austin and Mario need to go.
Trade off Mario for a special teams coach that move should have been made when SF arrived here..I agree, and they are all on offense. Also, hire a full time special teams coach.
How about "suggestion of the week". or we really turn up the heat.makes one wonder if the coaching staff knows anything or can they evauate any position. maybe we should go to guest coaches at different positions each week. put in a couple bucks into a drawing and use half the money raised to buy some coaching books.
