I don’t know if ESPN showed the between inning interviews with Tim Hudson and Rafael Palmeiro during their broadcast but they showed it on the scoreboard in the stadium. Raffi said he hadn’t been back to Omaha since ‘85 and mentioned the loss to Miami. He said he was counting on this team to accomplish the unfinished business and laid out the blueprint for winning, (pitchers shut down Auburn and for our hitters to grind out some hits). He was spot on.

My family and I ran into Raffi after the game and he was very personable and let us take some pictures with Our family. My wife told him we got married in ‘85 and went to watch them play in the regional in Starkville that propelled them to the CWS his final year at MSU.

My 90 year old father had a great time in the stands last night and had his rally cap on in the 9th. He won this game for us! Great memories, past and present.

He was on TV plenty last night.

They talked about his generous contributions to the program in detail. Also threw in the performance enhancing drug line, but that's inevitable I suppose.

So you met Raffi, and you had him take pictures of your family? Kind of a missed opportunity if you ask me....

Weird they didn’t ask Bruce Pearl about his cheating when they brought him up the booth to drool over him.

Agree with you on why they didn't mention Chuck Person or Tennessee with Pearl. Heck, they should have asked Malzhan about the rented mule. That pissed me off big time when that fat *** said that about Raffi!

It’s pretty amazing to think about how many incredible baseball games Eduardo Perez has seen in his 50 years.

Some of the young guys on here may not know, but Perez and Ken Griffey Jr. were born within about a month of each other in 1969.

When they were 6 or 7 years old, their dads played together for Cincinnati’s “Big Red Machine” teams that won back-to-back World Series titles in ‘75 and ‘76.

They grew up playing hide-and-seek in the clubhouse lockers of Johnny Bench, Dave Concepcion, Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, George Foster, Cesar Geronimo, Sparky Anderson, and of course, Tony Perez and Ken Griffey, Sr.

There’s a great story of the 6-year-olds getting in trouble for flicking sunflower seeds and hitting Pete Rose, so Rose pulled them up onto the bench next to him and said, “ok kids, if you’re gonna be in my dugout you’re gonna sit here and learn something”.

So Rose made Perez and Griffey learn to chart pitches. They got so good at being able to tell the difference in a fastball, curveball, etc, that they started playing a game predicting what pitch was coming next based on score, inning, runners on base, and the like. Perez says to this day he can remember Rose pointing out pitchers tendencies and “tells” before a pitch, and you can hear him doing that in the booth during games.

He’s not the best announcer ever but the guy absolutely knows baseball.

Perez doesn't bother me. He called out a couple should be's before they happened too like Tony Romo. One he said the Auburn 2b needs to move more to the right and sure enough next pitch Skelton gets an rbi single right where Perez said the 2b should have been.

He also railed on Westburg once for needing to play on the other side of second base before the hitter hit a ground ball right to him, making Perez look like an idiot.

Perez is terrible. And given that he's Mike Martin's boy, I'd hate to have to listen to him if we had to play FSU.

I got chastised for saying such last night, but it felt like a PSA for Auburn at times last night.

I think it was good that Pearl and Malzhan were at the game. I kinda wish some of our coaches were there to get some air time as well except for Coach Joe, he is doing to good a job recruiting right now to be interrupted.

It was full on Auburn media attention whoring. There's nothing to call it other than that.

Meh. The Pearl and Gus show was annoying, but it was a great story with Auburn being a massive underdog. We should understand that and not be so sensitive about it.

We were the darlings last year. Everyone loves the underdogs. That's why it's the Mike Martin show 24/7 when FSU is playing.

I was listening to Jim and not really hearing the talking heads. Did they mention the untimely death of Auburn's Radio voice?

That has been grossly underreported. I don't think they brought it up at all last night, unless I missed it.

That's a great story with this team making a run after that happened to their radio guy.

I agree. During the closeups, I saw the patch/button on their caps and it took me a second to realize what it was. There were plenty of times for them to mention it (and they should have) but I never heard it if they did.

I don't ever remember Perez calling anything except last years World Series and now here he is again. He is the WORST in my opinion that I've ever heard. His dad was a baller but he's monkey shat.......

I got some info on that situation yesterday from a source in Auburn. Kid is the son of a prominent family there and has a history of wild, reckless behavior. You hate to think that has to do with the media moving on from the story so quickly and the lack of criminal charges from the DA office, but I suspect it does.

Jeez. That's all kinds of messed up. We need Dawg@Auburn to weigh in. What happened to him?

I'm not a big fan of Perez's broadcasting but in person he was as nice of a pro athlete as you could hope to meet.

When Ankiel was 19 I went with my dad to watch Ank pitch and also to see JD Drew, my favorite player at the time as Drew was on a rehab assignment. It was the old Tim McCarver Stadium where the chicks/Redbirds played prior to Autozone. We were sitting right next to the fence by the on deck circle. Perez after first striking up a conversation with us went out of his way to speak every chance he got the rest of the game. At the same time Drew was oblivious that anyone was even there watching. Like I said still not crazy about his broadcasting but he genuinely seems to be good people. Thought the Raffi jab was to much though. The conversation about who wasn't juicing during that time would be a much shorter one than the conversation about who was. Oh and sitting 20 feet from home plate, Ankiel was the most magical athlete I've ever been that close to.
