(Correction: I had attributed the following comment to Matt Wyatt. A fellow poster noted that he thought the comments were made by Bart, and that's probably correct. My bad.

Said he didn't write down his thoughts on this game because of 3 things. #1 The SEC office might find it. #2 Our coaching staff might find it. And #3 His pastor might find it.

Kind of says it all right there.

1) the Sec can’t say nothing back
2) the staff can’t say nothing back
3) his pastor may agree with it.

Tough Day to Explain

I think that was Bart on the postgame. Tough day to try to make sense of.

We doubled them in total yards, first downs and time of possession and still lost. When you dominate the stats like that and still lose, it’s a very tough pill to swallow.

I'm rewatching the second half this morning. I had several distractions yesterday and missed some key moments.

Anyway, I still can't explain it. Up 17-7 with first and goal in the third quarter. Memphis' only success was a scoop and score. Still up 17-14 in the 4th and controlling the game. How do they lose this thing?

My nc state alum boss made note of that last Monday how we basically ran a passing ball control offense and it was frustrating to watch. I told him you have no idea. Luckily our defense played well and their qb sucked

The best way I can describe it is 3 yards and a cloud of dust disguised as a passing game.

I'm going to go ahead and put this out there.

TV is about selling advertisements. With that you also get to watch the game for the price a few dollars per month No one really wants to watch a game that isn't interesting. There are ways to make the games close enough to be interesting. That's happened at an impossible rate over the last 5-6 years.

The main goal of a game on TV is to keep it close enough to retain viewers and thereby sell more advertising. There's no other reason ESPN bought the rights other than that right there.

Watch and see when two teams aren't evenly matched how close it is, especially up to halftime. Dan is a darling at that and they love him for it. Saban, not so much, not at all. CBS got a good game yesterday though. And that matters because tv ad revenue has been way down lately.

Offensive Line Penalties and not fair catching their punts. They never stopped us. We stopped ourselves and gave up field position with those punts and penalties. If I were coach I would tell the OL the next penalty you have for motion, holding or a stupid 17ing personal foul away from the play...You Are Out!

I think any pastor who follows sports at all would understand. I almost prayed this morning that all the State fans (including myself) would find it in their hearts to forgive a few refs.

If the refs who screwed up had found it in their hearts to correct their errors right after the play when it mattered (or maybe even just offer an apology after the game), I'm sure we would have.

How can the SEC and NCAA not automatically quickly review every turnover or scoring play. Not the 5 minute review, the 15 second one.

49 yards rushing
Fumble recovered for a TD
Failed to score on 1st and goal from the 4
Memphis converts 4th and 9 late in the 4th
94 yard punt return for a TD
Shanked punt in the 4th
Onside kick debacle
Failed 2 pt conversion
7 possessions without a point in the 2nd half
Stupid penalties

Don’t kid yourself into thinking that we played well yesterday just because we outgained Memphis by a couple hundred yards. We could’ve done 2-3 of the things I listed above and won easily, but we didn’t. Way too many miscues to beat even a mediocre team, and we’re seeing it every week

We didn't score inside the 5....

Leach's teams always rack up yards and have a difficult time scoring. They got a defensive TD and a special teams TD (Yeah, I know). But, yes, MSU has more talent than Memphis and it was obvious.

Not kicking a field goal and taking points when you are already ahead is just stupid. Poor coaching put the decision in the hands of the refs thus poor coaching lost this game as much as anything else did.
