nice crowd for such a cold icy night......5700 or so official attendance, looked to be about 6K though IMO. student section filled late but not sure that they were the regular students, not as into as previous games

get loud late, quiet in first half...solid RAC crowd but nothing noteworthy

I don’t know if many people in the 100 sections realize that you can stomp your feet and it sounds 10 times louder than yelling or clapping. Just saying...
Thought it was a nice crowd and very vocal.

In other game experience news, someone cranked up the PA to deafening volume pregame for some reason. Perhaps so it would be impossible to have a conversation with anyone sitting next to you even if shouting.
Thought that was a thing now for the visitor’s warmups?

Yeah, but volume thing from the moment I walked in was absurd not just during that opponent warmup shtick. It's not usually like that and was unwelcome by me. I was trying to talk to someone right next to me and it was fruitless.

I agree. At times way too loud, system doesn’t sound as clear when volume is pushed.

Was rocking at the end. Wish the whole crowd was into it from beginning but expected after 3 game skid. Still had a great crowd considering. Loud when it had to be down the stretch. That was helped with us hitting clutch basket after clutch basket and stopping them when we had to too down the stretch. Big shots, clutch 3s, and some nice dunks helped the crowd get into it.

the fracking sound system is so loud it makes the crowd noise seem like a break even when folks are screaming. maybe even illegally loud. (and I LOVE how loud the RAC can be when fans are screaming).

top was ready tocome off when Geo missed the layup and it turned 4 points on the layup other end... + 7 went to +3 and our collective aholes got real tight ...many think here we go again... but GREAT Corey was there tonight.

The folks who handle the audio/visual at football and basketball equate a loud sound system with excitement. They do not understand how to read the flow of a game, how the crowd reacts to that flow, and what audio (Band vs. canned music) will excite the crowd.

Case in point: Last night, Rutgers was ahead with :35 seconds left and there was a timeout. Instead of letting the band play the fight song, they played “Livin’’ on a Prayer”. That is no substitute for the fight song, with the cheer, followed by an R-U chant. That decision totally changed the vibe in the building at that moment.

The sound system quashes the great organic environment that made the RAC famous in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Agree.

A good use example of canned vs Band at Football was playing the Fat Boy Slim remix from Moulin Rouge (“Because we can...can...can!”) after a big turnover in the USF game. Stadium went nuts.

Your idea of the Pep Band playing the Fight Song (which as you also pointed out naturally flows into the RU chant) would have been the correct move last night.

There should be some better coordination with this kind of thing. Maybe a headset for somebody in the Pep Band who is communication with the audio/visual guys?

How was it tonight?
Lower level was loud. 200 level was full of people not wearing red, sitting on their hands, and not doing the R-U chant.
I sit in 204. Many people in my section were up and chanting. There were also ALOT of Wisconsin fans up there. They tried to start a "defense" chant and then Corey scored and shut them up. They were very quiet in the last minute. :)

Love the band playing loud and the loud crowd noise, but the DJ plays the music much too loud. Like you said, the crowd noise seems like a break.

I love the band and the fight song and cheer. The music that blares isn't for me, but if it gets the students jumping and rocking, I'm all for it... especially late in the game.

I thought the RAC was not as loud as it could have been based on the size of the crowd, until late in the game. Wisconsin fans did not make their presence felt.
The video played when Wisconsin came put for final warmups was hilarious. Did not mind the volume though I wasn't there for earlier warmups.

I agree I think the scoreboard is too loud, especially in the pregame with the opposing team...a bit painfully loud at times. Overall I think they have done a good job this year in balancing excitement with music and letting the band play. I will tell you the cheerleaders and dance team have stepped up their game. In years past they were very underrepresented and not big time. I am glad that more is being required of them to have full squads on the sidelines

When Pernetti was AD, the Dance Team only appeared once every three home games. That was inexcusable

I'm in 203 wearing red, not sitting on my hands and screaming my head off.
BTW even the Wisky fans were wearing red.

For the opponent warm ups they should play quiet piano music then bring the excitement when our team comes out.

I think they've gotten the mix between band / piped in music, and leaving space for fan participation pretty spot on for the most part this season although maybe not great against Wisconsin. Don't need that Lion King thing in the last 10 minutes of a close game. That's not college basketball. My gripe was with the pregame PA volume which was ear splitting and utterly pointless.

I've argued about this for years in football and it's starting to get bad at wrestling matches. Whoever we have hired to run the audio/visuals are complete amateurs at their chosen profession. It's like we picked up some kid off the street and said give it a whirl kid and crank up the volume. Football is the worst. They play that air guitar thing way too long and don't let the crowd noise get ramped up. On offense they play friggin canned music, up to the snap. Who the F plays music while we're on offense, it's supposed to be dead quiet. Many times they play canned music over the band.

Matt Colaglovanni is the Senior Associate Athletic Director Facilities, Events and Operations he's the man solely responsible for these debacles. A simple job and he's completely incompetent at it. I've already e-mailed him several times about my concerns.
