Finally figured out how to post a photo. Thanks Richie.

After the major parking issues the other night my seatmate and I were so frustrated we started thinking of a better way. I am not saying this will work but any suggestions would be appreciated.

First RU would need to put up some electronic signs telling the traffic "Green lot only" and "Yellow lot and Cash parking " this way.

They would also need to have someone at the entrances of Hospital Road only allowing green to come down from the south entrance and yellow and cash from the North entrances.

Commuters would be need to be told and learn on game nights they can only exit the lot from the east side.

Green traffic has the option for two lanes and no back up of people trying to get to yellow. They need to put a barricade up on the road between the two lots. The backup would be the scanners entering the lot but that is a back up already. Get rid of them and it would flow.

Yellow also has two lanes to flow in. I also made a cash only entrance but not sure if that would work but you could make all entrance lots in yellow cash. Thoughts?

I really like elements of this, though I think there are a couple of things that won't work.

First, we can't assume that everyone entering on Avenue E are Green lot pass holders (though in theory you could force the Route 18 . I would make Hospital Road two lanes in the direction of the parking lots. The right lane would be for the parking deck, yellow and green prepaid passes and the left lane for day of game. It will be essential that the attendants get cars into the lots to scan passes so there isn't a big backup (and utilize the multiple entrances to each lot). The day of game cars would be forced to the second yellow lot entrance.

I think you'll need an emergency exit lane towards Sutton Lane. I would then make an entrance from Hospital Road into the lots for existing parking pass holders (admittedly, this is not ideal for these people).

I like the idea of forcing the exit from the lots on the far side. That will only impact some of the people who are trying to enter from that over there. For those exiting on Rockefeller Rd, they can go right without restriction, but if they turn towards Sutton, they are forced to turn right onto Sutton so as to not cause further delays. Lastly, I would follow your suggestion of having day of game cards come around Sutton to Rockefeller.

It’s a start. There’s a major issue currently (and with the plan above) coming from Sutton’s Lane turning onto Rockafeller Rd to park (yellow, green, or no pass). I have a Green pass and used to turn onto Hospital Rd off Suttons before some mensah decided to cut off turning onto Hospital.

On Rockafeller Rd., need a COP at intersection of Sutton/Rockafeller directing traffic. 3 lanes on Rockafeller :

1 for traffic out
1 for PP holders
1 for non PP holders

It’s not rocket science.

With this plan if you have a green pass you could not come in via Sutton only from the south entrance.

Precisely!!! I suggested this in writing to the athletic dept two yrs ago w no response. And to those who say it has flaws, you’re wrong. In football only scarlet and green can enter on Sutphen. They stop everyone w/o those passes on river road and send them on their merry way. It’s so f’in obvious. As usual RU tries to over-engineer everything and ends up with a complete cluster F.

Here's my spin on it...

  • red arrows = move fields to make room for a road
  • yellow on Metlars shows a new ONE-WAY entrance towards the yellow parking lots.. only from westbound.. no light.. avoid sending yellow traffic trough the next light where it will be a nightmare
  • yellow can come from other directions as they do now
  • green entry is as OP said but with some options to come from other directions
  • and here is the return of the Scarlet Lot next to the track.. you will need a crossing guard on game days

Just my opinion, but wouldn't you want to balance out where the cars are riding from a little bit more? This is great if you're in Green, but the yellow lot is 3x the size of the Green lot, and anyone with a yellow pass is thrown in to fight with the masses without season parking. This will make it impossible for people to get into the game on time by multiplying the number of cars trying to get to Sutton Lane.

Amen! What you are saying is absolutely correct.

I have been telling Rutgers this same idea over the past few years.

Next problem.....additional bathrooms at the opposite end of the RAC (both sides)....this helps add more room for for food/beverage vendors including cash beverage barrel, hot dog only stations, etc......cash and go all leads to larger vendor contracts.....

Maybe our top graduate business program can help with a simple "Queuing Theory" Analysis and Plan for maximizing Food and Beverage Purchase....for those of you who remember Drive In Food lines where you grab food, beverage, pay and leave.....it works the same at Princeton basketball games that know people come in droves at halftime to buy food and beverages.

Dave, I posted below on the other thread about this. IMO it will help yellow even more then Green:

Let me try and explain For the yellow lot, First off all the commuter traffic will no longer be going out Hospital Road and blocking up one lane. This will allow two lanes of traffic to enter from the North instead of one so double the amount of cars. Plus you will have an entrance Rockafeller Rd. with only Yellow allowed no green to slow the scanners down.
Second , this will allow only yellow on these entrances so you don't have green parking cars all pissed off waiting in line for the yellow people waiting to pay to get in lot.
Second , traffic should flow a lot easier coming in to the Green lot since everyone will only be green parking passes and Yellow holders will not be making a mess trying to get over to their lot. Of course they need to do a better job with scanning. Why not just to the rip off bottoms like they do in football.
I did not do a good job marking up the map. Traffic can enter form the East or West from Ave E or Suttons Lane.

Of course they can make it better by widening roads or adding new ones but I just went with what we have today.
