Given the increasing likelihood of extensive renovations to the RAC, I was curious what others thought about the proposed changes - maybe most notably moving the entrance to face the green lot. It's certainly more practical, but also made me question whether the administration is considering a phase 2, with the current front and rear pyramid walls being removed, if possible, for greater expansion? At roughly 8000 seats, the RAC occupancy is half that of most B1G arenas; not sure how much expansion is possible without losing the current atmosphere and acoustics? I also would love to see wholesale aesthetic changes to the exterior if/when there is a phase 2.

Yes the renovations will make the capacity about 10,500 which is as much as we’ll probably need .. they are filling in both end zones with real seats all around turning the 100s essentially into a “bowl”, that’s exactly what we need. They are also getting rid of the strange bulky press seating halfway up the sideline and turning those into a luxury section. All great updates without sacrificing any of the acoustics - the tin slanted roof, and the steep 200/300 seating

If all this B1G money is coming in why do we need to make changes for the sake of additional revenue.

The changes that are being made are not for the 99% of current fans of the program.

We don’t need comfortable bowled 100 seats.

There is a negative relationship between capacity and demand for tickets.

I see two possible problems with filling in those corners and putting in permanent seats; the RAC will become less useable for special events like the career fair, dance marathon, and major speakers once those seats can no longer move in, and at least part of the acoustic magic of the RAC is that our bleacher style seating becomes drum like when thousands of people are stomping their feet.

This scares the hell out of me. Opening on the green end has to have an effect on the acoustics.

That won't affect the acoustics; Opening to the green lot will not affect the seating at all they are just going to make more of a concourse and I don't know the exact specifics but I am sure more bathrooms and concession stands

I've spoken to some people who understand acoustics. They say the doors in the corridors (that that lead to the seats) are a major reason the noise level gets so high. They say if they were removed a great deal of noise would escape.

I've always thought the doors are completely useless and unnecessary. They're heavy and simply seem to be a blockade to fans walking to their seats or trying to get to the bathroom or concessions stands. However, if they keep the noise level high, keeping them is a necessity.
