I agree wholeheartedly with this. I'm also a Braves fan, so I am biased.

A great all around player. An underrated right fielder and good base runner. And a quality man who lived through unbelievable racial abuse.

In my opinion the fact that he played in smaller markets a good deal of his career as opposed to one of the NY or California teams prevented him from getting the acclaim he deserved.

Hank was on the allstar team for twenty years. I was fortunate enough to attend one of those. He was more than a home run hitter. You never heard a bad thing about Hank.

one reason he was never held held in higher regard was just that Hank never hit monster shots but then he didn't play the majority of his career at the Polo Grounds and his cap actually fit and didn't blow off on command. Had he played for a New York or Philadelphia team well
