Did you notice the rebounding difference? LOL!

BD I don't disagree about the rebounding...but I can point out several plays were we had the rebound and got pushed in the back and lost position.

They happened in key moments of the game, Ulis grabbed one that was at a critical point, Perry mugged him and gets the ball back and they hit a big 3.

Again the rebounding was a major point I do agree with you, we had several rebounds that we got fouls called that were not fouls.

The over the back calls only worked out on one end of the floor.

Even with the rebounding, and Ft's we were still in the game and had a chance to win it.

I like that our team is growing, they have some issues no doubt but I wouldn't want to play us in March.

NO. You posted numerous examples of past games where UK got a very favorable whistle. You were insinuating that UK gets a whistle at home and that was comparable to what Kans-*** got last night. I posted a very recent example that completely counters your claim.
Now you want to try and use my example as proof that somehow UK's players managed to foul at better than 2:1 ratio in a game that was fought equally hard by BOTH teams.
Refs ALWAYS matter. If they didn't then Cal (and all other coaches) wouldn't be allowed to "blackball" certain referees from calling their games.

The FT disparity number that made a difference was 17 FT's to 0 for the last 10 minutes of regulation. Especially when there is obvious fouls made by KU that went uncalled.

You didn't read this entire thread then.
My pointing out that was to simply point out the bias. It was simply to say that people never complain when the disparity is in UK's favor (which more often than not it is especially in the Cal era).

It's not my view on things. I don't see a disparity and immediately think oh the refs must be cheating.

As I've said countless times, drawing fouls and getting fouls are skills.

When Skal used to start games he could barely stay on the court without getting into foul trouble. Lee has this problem as well.
I mean at some point we need to be honest with ourselves here. We don't have the type of defense we had past years. And u know what, those teams had no fouling problems whatsoever.

Our bigs struggle on D. They just do.

I watched a majority of the game but actually went on a beer run (we had people over for the game and i was playing host) and it just so happened i was gone during the meat of the second half between the 10 min and 5 min mark which is where so many people claim we got the short end of the stick. it's just easier to blame the refs.

The KU game was just that.......1 game. It was always gonna be tough to go in there and get a W and I think UK played pretty good overall.

It's just I'm looking at this thing going forward and I see an issue that needs to be corrected. So while everyone can sit and blame the refs, they are missing the bigger picture.

The problem was the game was being called pretty even up to mid way in the second half and that is when the Refs went crazy with fouls. That is why most fans are upset with the refs is that the game was called ok up to that point and when that all changed is when Kansas came back and took the lead. Before all that and the game being called even between the 2 teams Kentucky led most of the game by 6 to 8 points but when that all changed halfway through the 2nd half the momentum went in favor Kansas. There were so many picky fouls called and esp on both Willis & Lee. This year Lee is having a hard time adjusting to the new fouls and having a hard time staying in the game. It wasn't just us fans that were complaining on the fouls in the 2nd half. Many of the Media and Experts were saying how bad Kentucky had it on the calls in the 2nd half. When the Refs were letting the teams play Kentucky was leading most of the game and led by 6to 8 points until the Refs took over the game mid point of the second half.

On the few possessions Kentucky was able to penetrate, the referees called the fouls. More jump shots in the second half for Kentucky and those don't get fouled as much. Kansas penetrated and tried drawing the fouls and attacked the boards.

Alex Poythress has ended up with 3-4 fouls in almost every game he plays this year. Lee has fouled out of six games already. Skal has had 4+ fouls in 7 games. From the looks of it, the UK bigs seem to have had a problem guarding without fouling all season.

The very few of you posting that Kansas didn't get any home cooking is hilarious. ESPN commentators and people that aren't even UK fans have been talking about how bad the officiating was. The way I look at it, the out come is over with. Kansas won and Kentucky lost. The officiating was one sided but we still should have won that game regardless. I'm not saying ignore it. There's going to be questionable calls in every game. Refs are human. When it happens I tend to feel it's more about the refs making honest mistakes, not that they are in fact favoring another team.

Unless Refs are betting on the game, what benefit is it to them to favor a team over the other? Why do the refs care one bit about who wins a regular season matchup between UK and KU.

I watched the game last night and of course I sat there and saw some questionable calls. But the difference is when I see a huge disparity, I'm thinking it has more to do with us not being able to play D without fouling vs the refs. A ref can make bad calls in a game but when the difference is THIS LARGE, something else is going on here.

And the numbers bear this out. We've had issues fouling the entire season. It wasn't just this game. Heck even when we waxed Vandy a week ago, they shot 25 free throws to our 6.

If this was an issue for a game or two I would say maybe you got a point. But when it happens several games in a season all with different refs......I mean every ref can't possibly be against us lol

Mason stepped over the line and was way closer than 3 feet when Oklahoma was inbounding the ball with 27 secs left, then touched the ball first after having been out of bounds and they didn't give the ball back to Oklahoma. I am not alleging any mass conspiracy or anything, but more that they get sucked in by the crowd noise and tradition of that arena and end up sticking it to the visitors almost every time. The vast majority of the time, KU is way better than the opponent, so the outcome likely would have been the same with a fair whistle. But this season, Oklahoma and UK both leave with wins if the refs were even a little bit more competent and fair.

I agree with you about that in bounds play.

And I also agree about the about Oklahoma and UK.

After that OU-KU game I came away with the feeling Oklahoma was better than KU was.......despite losing. And this has turned out to be true so far. KU is Big 12 play has not been like the KU in the past. Currently KU only has a 10% chance of winning that conference. Their defense is the worst it's been since Self has gotten there.

I guess where the disagreement comes into play is the extent of this. If you believe that home field is worth 3-4 points and believe that a number of factors go into that, then refs calling more fouls on the home team vs the vistors can't have a major effect.

That's where the difference is tho. Most fans look at last night game and say wow that was ALOT more than just 3-4 points of home cooking. I look at it and think did they get some favorable calls........yeah sure. But the major effect was our inability to defend.

The refs did not cost UK this game. We had a chance to win at the end of regulation and had a miscue. Our bigs had a hard time defending without fouling tonight. I know it's tough to lose a close game we had a chance to win but you really make yourself look petty when you whine about the officials. It was a great game and we saw that the Cats have a great chance to be right there at the end in march. GBB!
