Quit Complaining About Cal

7 out of the last 10 years we've made the Elite 8.

Players win games. Herro, Hagans, and Quickley were awful today. Both offensively and defensively. Auburn's guards were unbelievable. If we hit a couple of wide open 3's and miss a couple less FTs in that second half we win.

Coach Cal can't shoot FTs and make 3's for these guys. Cal put us in a very good position to win and our players didn't make plays.

We had the 11 point lead and Herro and Johnson had multiple good looks and didn't convert any of them. If we have that double digit lead at half, we win in spite of over all poor play.

A thread of reason. This year may be Cal’s best coaching job. I didn’t like his subbing today. RT and PJ needed more rest in the 2nd half and Quickley should have played more in place of Hagans.

You all do realize that it’s easy for us to coach and complain but other teams can have good games players coaches and you only have to have not even one off night but one or two bad plays to go home

At least we lost to auburn and not unc. I can stomach this a little better than that. On to yard work. A little break from basketball and then ready for some talk about next season by June or so.

a lot of coaches could make 7/10 elite 8s with the talent we've had, and a lot would have more titles.

It's you pumpers thinking continuing on this track are embarrassing.
Keep Cal, make him change up!
Jesus, it's not that hard to see he needs to update his concepts!
Who's doing better? Funny you say this as Pearl gets his first ever final four.

I'm disappointed too but I don't understand why it always leads to blaming Cal. Especially when you can point to things like missed FTs and silly turnovers that lead to losses.

Second thread using Elite 8's as the standard of success. We made it to the Elite 8 for 17 consecutive years going from Pitino to Tubby. Elite 8 isn't a standard of success here. And much of that 7 of 10 is the first 5 years. The last few it's only 2 of 4 with a second round exit in there.

I don't want Cal replaced

but when you have to start pimping elite 8's for Kentucky, well...maybe we should just focus on the final four success we've had with him

we start talking about IF's and shoulda's, then we move into Tubby Smith territory

I'm not saying fire Cal, but how many Elite 8's we make is not very important to me. Cal got out coached today plain and simple. We had an advantage inside the last two games and didn't exploit it nearly enough. That's on Cal. We ran the same sets we always run. Instead of adjusting to pound the ball inside against weaker players, we took way too many jump shots. I don't think that is an execution problem. I think that is a strategy problem from the coaching staff.

What you are seeing is a childish response from rather pathetic posters that lack the mental acuity to accept a kiss.

68 teams enter the tournament. 67 end the same way. Only 4 will last longer.

I mean, at some point, at least some of the blame needs to start going on Coach Cal. I love him but Tubby was really good at going to Sweet 16s and Elite 8s too for a while there..and he took a lot of the blame.

Thank you for this. I agree 100%. Cal can only put them in the position to execute. He can’t do it FOR them. Sure people can question this or that with Cal, but at the end of the day our guard play was the reason for defeat.

And the worst thing, when the NCAA gets through with investigations, Auburn will most likely have to vacate this years games. Oh well. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Cal is going to have to start over with a new roster next year. But Cal did not have them ready to play today for sure. I thought the game plan and sets we used sucked.

Pearl had a great game plan for exploiting matchups. We didn't.

It came down to the play at 60-60 and they didn't make the play.

I also don't want Cal replaced. I want Cal to change to his OAD philosophy.

The formula for Cal = 1 of 2

Formula 1 = See 2012 (1-2 Elite OAD, 2 contributing freshman combat + 1 good senior)

Formula 2 = See 2014/2015 (platoon)

Bull! Cal has stated numerous times he doesn’t have players practice free throws, that it’s something they just need to do on their own time. When you have nothing but 18-19 year olds you have to MAKE them practice. How many titles is he going to cost himself before he gets it thru his thick head? He probably never will because he’d have to admit he was wrong and his ego would never let that happen.

Plus you mention their guards being outstanding but Auburn didn’t play anywhere near as well as they did the previous two games plus didn’t have their best player. Yet we still find a way to lose.

So it's okay to bash the player but wrong to bash the coach?Okay.
No...Cal should have made adjustments to defend their pt guard and Hagans should have sat more often however even with that we loss to poor shooting and a team that has some breaks go their way.
